I remember the funnest Saturdays shopping, eating, relaxing. It was so clean and safe. Everyone was happy. Those days are long gone. I went a few yrs back when the crime was first ramping up, and before it was widely known about the issue, and I remember walking into the Nordstrom entrance by the garage parking and feeling strangely unsafe. The vibes were so bad I immediately left and never went back.

In my state, Phoenix has a similar mall called Metrocenter where they fill the first Bill and Ted, but now they are demolishing the mall, it’s sad that malls are closing, all thanks to online shopping
@conniewojahn644511 күн бұрын
Online shopping isn't the only killer of the Llyod Center Mall, and maybe your Metrocenter as well. I've lived in the Portland Metro area for sixty years and I can count the times I went to Llyod Center Mall on the fingers of one hand. Just wasn't interested in wasting my time shopping, nor did I care to battle traffic and crowds. I shopped/shop at outer city "mini" malls and larger stores like Fred Meyer, Walmart, and Target. Yes, I use online shopping, but nothing beats the experience of physical location shopping.

When Lloyd Center opened, my friend and I would bike to the mall (7 miles) and do all the things 11 year olds would do at the mall - run up the down escalator, get treats at the Nut House, get trinkets at Woolworths… if we had the money, we’d go skating. Great fun!!

Whoever purchased this mall and grew it to this massive building did Portland a HUGE disservice. This mall was fabulous at Christmas time especially. The rink would have huge Christmas decor hanging over it, the ice would have a Christmas picture frozen in the center of the rink, holiday music playing families skating and it was beautiful. It was more than just going to the mall. It was an event. Was....😥

It's so sad. I worked at Lloyd Center M & F in the late 70's. The mall was brimming with shoppers. Christmas there was a magical time. When it was closed in to compete with Clackamas Town Center and Washington Square, it became a hangout for teens. Crime took over the area, and Nordstrom pulled out. That was the beginning of what you see there now.
