Sad to see an iconic local attraction disappear. Some say it’s progress, but in many cases it’s a lack of vision and/or finances. Several iconic places around me have disappeared like this over the past 5 years and none of them are coming back; a few have been demolished

So many things changed a lot over the years. Hopefully they'd be able to reuse the old Lydia's building. I thought the architecture was pretty cool! I also like the interior food court layout too. Sort of reminds me of a typical mall food court but a lot smaller. You got a new nice camera! Great video as always, Klearski 👍

Lydia's brought back some long ago memories for me. I move to Oregon in the early 1970's. The first week working at my new job, a new work friend asked me if I wanted to go to Lydia's with him after work. He was a regular there and introduced me around. Everybody was friendly , the owners were nice. It was a great welcome to me as a new arrival. I haven't been in Lydia's for 15 years now but I did go a lot in the 80's and 90's. They had some good Rock n' Roll bands there, especially Ron Rudy and the Hurricanes. I must have been in Lydia's hundreds of times in my life and it was always a mellow place for fun with little trouble. The Joseph Family used to own it. They now own Mr.J's near Gresham High School. Sorry to see the Rockwood icon leave.

I don't remember Lydia's but then again, I moved away in 1970. I was wondering if part of that building that faces Stark is where there once was a pizza parlor. My mom would buy me pizza there once I learned to like pizza! :). I also wonder about the Rockwood area. The address was Portland but yet at the time, I went to Gresham High. When asked where I grew up, I would say Portland and yet it was outside of the city limits and much closer to Gresham. So what do people say when they lived in the Rockwood area?
@donneary71044 күн бұрын
Rockwood's location confuses locals and visitors because it has a Portland Zip code but is part of the City of Gresham. It stems from a decision long ago when Gresham and Portland divided up the unincoprated section in between to the two cities which included the Rockwood district. I believe the residents voted to not alter their zip code address and it remained as if it was in Portalnd when it's really is in Gresham. It remains confusing, especially when calling for emergency services, like Police or fire, since both cities have their own separate units.

@@donneary7104 I will tell people I am from Gresham. Back in the day, we preferred to distance ourselves from saying we were from Gresham since it was a very small farming town. I would think now it would be just the opposite and would distance ourselves from saying we were from Portland. Then again, I'll say I am from Seaside since that's where I spent most of my adult life.
@donneary71043 күн бұрын
@@SnappyCamera Lucky you. Seaside is a great Coastal town. But as a local, I bet you tired of it getting loved to death in the summer months. Yes, nowadays Gresham does have a much better rep than Portalnd as far as I'm concerned. Gresham is still the 4th largest City in the State with a current population of 110K. It continues to grow. Changes happening daily including a new multy story library as big as the downtown Portland one.

Do you need to buy a ticket, in Toronto they don’t in force ticket sales, if you have no money or you are disadvantage you ride free
@goldiecob4 күн бұрын
@aaronkoivu not unless you want to be honest. The portland max works on an honor system. There are no barriors to prevent you from getting on without paying, nor does anyone ever check. But I still pay when using it like kreeper does because the have honor.

ha ha, you were ahead of me - 'Coffee Achieved'; there was no need for my sales pitch. like they say, all things in moderation. *i continue to be amazed by the emptiness of so many of the places you go. waiting at the max station, the area around lydias, that food court, etc; just nobody there, except you & the people manning the businesses. makes it seem like you're the only guy keepin the faith, still out there on the street like it's pre-internet, looking around, talking to people, making the community thing happen, or at least doing what you can. they say people are deserting the outside world for the inner one (digital tech); maybe. anyway i'm glad you're out there/we get to see what you're still looking at in 3D.
