I was fortunate enough to play for Kleiber in the LSO and to play Freichutz overture with him in the 1980s . He made everything he conducted feel like the greatest music ever written. I will never forget how fortunate I was Martin Gatt

I was at that concert. Despite the naysayers in the critical community it was a great evening. Thank you.

Martin, thank you for sharing your memory of playing for Maestro Kleiber. How wonderful!!
I have no clue about music, don’t play a Instrument, can’t read notes,… I’m just a simple waitress. But I do love and respect passion and the will for perfection when I see it. Fascinating!

You're absolutely right, it's like a momentary inspiration that is born right before our eyes. This is the best speaker of many. Hello to you from Western Siberia, Russia
This visual document is priceless for true music lovers the world over. Incomparable Kleiber, and behaving as a gentleman to the players, as always. What a sound he gets from the strings at the sombre outset of the piece.

I don't speak German or Japanese but I do know that CK's finished products in performance are among the finest ever, indeed sometimes the gold standard.

This genius & unique maestro had set such a very high standard for music interpretation & conducting that it's unfortunately impossible to have anyone who can match this level, neither now nor in future. Amazing person.
Incredible genius. One of a kind whose like will never be matched. I am a symphonic conductor and I bow down to this great genius. PS The principal clarinet in the white turtle neck was a substitute and not quite up to snuff. Maestro didn't know this and spent so much time trying to improve his performance.

I treasure this video, captured long before Kleiber had achieved his “legendary” status. Simon Rattle tells the story of how he and Haitink were sitting in a Covent Garden box at a closed Kleiber rehearsal of Otello. When it ended, Haitink turned to Rattle and said: “Well, I don’t know about you, but I think that my studies in this art have only just begun.”

I felt as if I were the member of this orchestra listening the instruction of the conductor. Nice experience!
Many people say he's the greatest conductor that ever lived. I would not dispute that for one moment.

It doesn't exist such a thing as "The greatest". There are no "top-ten" when you talk about real art. Please. Kleiber, Karajan, Celibidache, Bernstein, Klemperer, Walter, De Sabata, Scherchen, Furthwängler.... comeon.

This idea of "The greatest" is so puerile - so schoolboy. "Kleiber is better than Celibidache", "No he's not", "Yes he is". Art is not about The Greatest - that's the Olympic games. Some performers are unsurpassed. They are wonderful, marvelous, special. But "the greatest"? ABSURD

One does sincerely hope they're not going to work through the whole opera this way. Must be only the overture. Otherwise, they'll need the same number of rehearsals Boehm had at the Met for "Wozzeck" in 1959. Which I think was 32 or something....

@fabriziogarzi98923 жыл бұрын

Bisogna sempre fare classifiche?
