I had gotten one of the flip socket sets about a year and a half ago when home depot clearanced them out and I was pretty underwhelmed when I realized the sockets weren't deep at all. @@Mando98 yeah the flip sockets are only nice if there is a certain combo you switch back and forth on to save you from keeping up with the other. The chances Klein has put those two together on the same socket for everyone would be rare. Other than that, I would rather have a deep well because then each socket would be as small as the size it is, instead you have a socket that the smaller size is a little bigger on the other side of the socket to accommodate the larger of the two sizes. In a certain situation, that may not fit.

I personally like having the complete set and the 1/4” pass through set. Sometimes having a smaller ratchet is more useful than a larger one. And it gives me a little redundancy just in case. It’s also convenient to have all the screwdriver bits I need in the same case. And the complete set is great because it has basically everything else I need in metric and SAE. I snap the two cases together and it’s a great “all in one” set up to carry around.
@JC_1095Ай бұрын
I forgot to mention the complete set also has the 18mm socket and maybe a couple of others not present in other modbox sets. I also keep a 6” long 1/4” spline shaft in the hollow pass through handle and put the small 1/4+5/16 and 8mm+10mm flip sockets in it to store those magnetic nut drivers in the complete set case as well. I definitely think Klein should have made that those shorter magnetic flip sockets the option in the complete set instead of those longer flip sockets. You’re right that they’re too redundant compared to the pass through sockets, especially without magnetism.

If they had a set under $100 that had the main large 1/2” socket sizes in metric and SAE, in a stubby pass through length but with a pass through extension included, and a longer 1/2” ratchet, and an impact adapter, that might have been a home run.

Joey I picked up the $40 starter set as a decent gateway into this, and I just like 1/4" ratchet systems. This video has made me rethink that Flip-20 set, now that I understand they are NOT deep sockets. I could be headed towards the $100 Essentials kit for the 3/8" setup with metrics ... as JC mentioned below, it's good to have "multiples" in different sizes. I don't see myself getting into the $150 set. I plan to supplement with the $20 metric flip sockets, and using the SAE set that came with my 11--to-1 last year. I just received the 8mm/10mm flip socket in a gift exchange at work, and I'm eyeballing your adjustable-length screwdriver recommendation and the T-handle ratchet set. I might also get their impact bit set since it has modern, flip-up bit holders. They supposedly DO have deep well flip sets. 65240 has 5, a bunch of adapters, the 3/8 pass-through ratchet, and super-slim sockets not in others kits. All SAE. 65626 has 10, some adapters, the 3/8 regular ratchet. SAE and metric. Both come in larger MODBOX cases with a handle where the single latch would be on smaller boxes. I understand why they did that but it takes away from the center latch convenience. Meanwhile, there are two versions of the 11-to-1 in MODBOX cases now. One adds a magnetic bit holder a bunch of bits for $35: 32501HD. The other is the 32502HD, fewer bits but 6 deep well (not flip) SAE sockets, at $50. Not seen at klein.com because their marketing team is a joke. Both are on Amazon but mislabeled as being big stacking cases. I think the KNECT product manager at Klein must be high, or was given a budget to do anything without a coherent plan.

One thing I was curious about with the KNect M pass through set versus the Flip Socket set is compatibility with 3/8 drive powered ratchets and impact wrenches. I know that the flip socket set allows you to attach the sockets to a 3/8 drive tool using one of the adapters in the kit, but is there an option to do that with the pass through sets? Not sure if that would push others over the edge but I do end up using my flip socket set with my M12 ratchets and stubby impact on occasion and it’s handy.
@MORGANSMaintenanceАй бұрын
That’s true. You would have to put it in an adapter from your anvil to 1/4” bit holder and use the adapter in the Type M set that goes in your standard impact. That would have some length, but probably not much more than a flip socket on that 3/8 adapter. You would also have to do the same with those smaller flip socket sizes because they only fit on the 1/4” flip socket shafts.

One thing that I think doesn't get enough attention are the MAGNETIC hollow nut driver bits. Yeah, they aren't the newest fancy pass-through kits...but how often do you have more than 6" of bolt/rod you need to get past? Almost never. They have the 1/4 hex drive already built it, do you can use them in screwdrivers, ratchets, impacts and drills. Just a few pieces and they do almost everything....and they don't come apart as you use them like the type S does. Them being magnetic and MUCH slimmer is so much better. That hollow driver set plus the small type S ratchet does everything I need up to 9/16.
@MORGANSMaintenanceАй бұрын
I agree, those are in my main bag all the time, best nutdriver set out there in my opinion

My main complaint with the black Klein stuff is the finish. It’s so “chalky”, especially the ratchet. I get the finish shouldn’t be chrome for impact rating on the sockets, but do we need that finish on the ratchet? I think not. Like you I bought way too many sets in the beginning, and now I regret most of them.
@MORGANSMaintenanceАй бұрын
I don’t mind that I have them, or got them. I just wouldn’t buy them now knowing what they came out with. I did at least hold off on the original 3/8 set. I wasn’t willing to pay $70 for just SAE

I just bought the bigger pass through set. I dont really need a screwdriver handle or screw driver bits. Those are all something i have already in my bag. I dont see the point in a screwdriver handle when you can just put it in an impact or use the ratchet.
@MORGANSMaintenance17 күн бұрын
@@ianp6994 there are certain things I don’t use impacts for so I don’t over tighten, but you are right… most of the time a ratchet works. Only time I use a screwdriver handle instead typically is when I want to have a passthrough in my pouch for repetitive type work that needed to be done by hand.
@ianp699417 күн бұрын
@MORGANSMaintenance yeah I feel that I also still have a screwdriver I can put the impact attachment into. I just feel like in the case its wasting space in the box and the box takes up a lot of bag space too. I have plenty of screwdriver slots in my bag.

Love the video. I have the starter set and like it, but not having any metric sucks. After watching this video I’m going to get the 3/8 essential set. I have a million sockets , but no pass through stuff. So that should be good
@MORGANSMaintenanceАй бұрын
@ that’s what made me get them too. I was looking for a passthrough set. I didn’t like the originals because there weren’t metric for the price, I even ended up Buying a Cresent set because it had metric. I still like the starter set because it’s a little smaller and I normally run into SAE, so it’s still not bad to have. It’s probably the “best priced” set out there for what you get.

I bought 4 sets How many you all bought?
@scgear3847Ай бұрын
You’re misssing a bunch of newly released sets. Lowes now lists a flip socket set that includes a 3/8” ratchet. Lowe’s also has a low profile SAE set that has low profile inserts for a pass through style wrench..They essentially turn the pass through wrench into a normal ratcheting wrench. They also now have two deep well socket sets, not to mention the set with the 11-1 driver you have never mentioned.
@MORGANSMaintenanceАй бұрын
@@scgear3847 yeah I mentioned I don’t have them all. I don’t need any of those others because I have sockets/ratchets already. The Milwaukee ones I got were cheaper and have more sizes. I don’t carry them on me, so the Modbox isn’t as appealing to me as the others. The flip sockets to me just aren’t as useful, I’d rather have deep sockets or regular sockets. The passthrough set gives me all the same abilities for the most part, plus passthrough. So that one set allows me to do more. I would like a set of the low profile, but I won’t buy it unless it’s Metric and SAE. It would be a nice space saver over a set of ratchet wrenches Like I said, it’s a different scenario for everyone. The set I think is most useful may not be for someone else… we all do different stuff
@scgear3847Ай бұрын
@@MORGANSMaintenance I got you, you have just become the Klein Knect guy that ppl look to, to figure all these sets out. The low profile is nice, but all it does is turn the pass through wrench into a standard ratcheting wrench. They need to come out with a metric version and set with the ratcheting 11-1 for those of us into those :-) Thanks for the videos, helped a lot, but still have a few more sets than I need :-)
