I bought the MM450 today to test HVAC capacitors and it worked fine. If it is well built that is the most important thing. I think it can do most everything needed around the house and the case makes it easy to take care of.

Can't see those side input jacks being too favorable when the meter is held in the hand, would seem to affect your grip. Did look like a nice clean build inside, perhaps a reasonable meter for heavy electrical work, where the limited functionality would not be a hinderance and defaulting to AC would be quite useful.

Thanks so much for the fantastic review. Darren should be required to teach product review and video to all youtubers submitting product reviews. Very much a complete, detailed, capability demonstrated product review. Unfortunately I already purchased the MM450 before seeing this review and I was looking for a tutorial which this is good for also. I agree with Darren that it was pretty weak to not have a kick stand and they advertise in the packaging for the hanger strap which is $14 on amazon. I am fine with the functionality of the unit but the storage bag they provide was kind of like a cheap pencil case rather than something padded to protect and possibly store additional items like a set of alligator clamps which are an extra $20 or so bucks. I purchased the alligator clamps which are pretty nice but it's all a tight fit in that bag. I'm going to spend the $22 for the hard case and hanger bundle because this will get broken after banging into my other tools.

Hi John..thanks for the super kind words! 😊 Agreed, Klein dropped the ball as far as the kickstand is concerned they should have included the hanger with the multimeter! 😟 Enjoy the multimeter, it's a Klein so it will definitely last!

Klein - so many choices. Very similar specs and around $100Cdn. Excellent quality but dated specs. I have an MM700, CL390 and an MM420. Slim is good, and I do like the jacks on the side rather than the bottom. But with no stand does it matter? The MM420 is $30(Cdn) less and has a stand and jacks on the front, but is also much smaller than the MM700. But with Klein, paying a little more gets you much more meter. The CL390 is a clamp meter with 400 A AC and DC, and NCV. Home Depot and KMS sell them in Canada with competitive prices. Shop around.

Great points. Yes Klein quality and performance differ dramatically from model to model. I still don't understand the antiquated terminal cutouts either. Seems bizzare and definitely becomes problematic when taking the back off and on.

A fair score I think, nicely put together, attractive DMM but underwhelming. I have just managed to bag a Hewlett Packard E2377A (no original leads unfortunately) but these things are as rare as hens teeth over here you just don't see them come up for sale, I am over the moon to have one.

Awesome catch Shaun..! Those vintage HPs are awesome multimeters and they don't seem to lose any accuracy !! Agreed on the Klein..underwhelming is a great way to wrap it up!!

Any idea who actually makes Klein DMM's? Or the majority of the cheap ones for that matter? I can't find much just by googling. I have a Klein, two AstroAI's, and a few now dead Radio Shacks, but just bought a Uni-T 117c based on your review, and it's worlds better! Feels better than the flukes I've used in the past as well!

Hey Michael, thx for the feedback..Oh yea!! UT117C is definitely the cream of the crop. It's one of my daily drivers and hasn't let me down yet..glad you're liking it too. 😊 UNI-T has joined the big leagues and their testing equipment has become incredibly good 👍 UEI test instruments helped design and manufacture many of the Klein meters, some of which are made in the USA..so there ya go 😊 btw, KLEIN owns 50% of UEi I believe 😮

WHY do they use inverted displays??? An inverted display requires backlight (and thus consumes a lot of power) when an ordinary positive LCD does not.

Good idea! No stand is a big omission from Klein. Not sure why they engineered it this way but it's definitely lacking!

I usually like Klein despite them being a little pricey, but I don't really dig this one. Given the lack of a tilt stand, I assume it's designed to be hand-held rather than a bench meter. But then wouldn't the input jacks get in the way? Is it designed for electricians? Then why separate AC voltage and frequency/duty cycle? Why no NCV or LIVE mode? The light sensor and auto/manual brightness didn't seem that useful. I wish the capacitance range was at least 10mF instead. Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong, but I can't quite understand this meter.🤔

You and me both! Honestly it's poorly designed and seems like Klein ultimately had no idea who they were marketing this meter for..Electrician, hobbyist, electronics, HVAC...As you mentioned no tilt stand 🤔 why not a magnetic backing at least. 👍

They're charging for the screen on this one. Anytime you see a EBTN screen, the manufacturer is gonna cheap out on othe features to compensate
