Can most labs add stain to a crown (s)? Is staining a normal procedure or is it so specialized in skill only some labs are capable? My dentist and lab is having a hard time matching my crowns (lower) to my existing upper crowns. We have tried twice thus far with the lab my dentist uses and they keep coming back way too bright vs my uppers. We can't seem to get it right although my temporaries match my current crowns much better, almost perfect. Along with my initial ques of can most labs stain a crown, do you have any suggestions on how one might get the color better matching besides using the color pallet dentist use? Your reply is much appreciated. Really frustrated as the cost to get them was not cheap at all and this far only happy with the shape and fit...color is driving me nuts

Another great video. You are a true artisan! I recently (Jan '21) had an implant procedure and now am awaiting the finished bridge (Sept '21.) The bridge the dentist ordered came in but was not a good color match. It was obvious to the doc, assistant, and myself that the color was too white. It must match my other top front teeth! The owner of the practice said that he would send it back for color adjustment to have some grey added to it and it would be perfect. Is that even possible to alter the color of the finished product? I've already paid $8k for this work and it must be up to par.

Hi! I have a question. When you choose the block color, do you aim for the main color of the restoration? Or do you keep it a bit whiter and then add some staining to match the final desired color? I found my restorations tend to be too dark… thanks in advanced!!! Great videos!

Good question, choose the shade of the cusps or incisal edge, and then use one shade brighter in most situations. That will help will help in not getting the value too low. And as you mentioned, then tone in the body and cervical zone with stains as needed. All the best,

Hope you can answer my question. My crowns came back from the lab looking bulky , my dentist shaped them and now they look good , but they are lacking the high shine I saw when they came back from the lab at first. I’m guessing they are stripped from the glaze? Do they need to go back to the lab for glaze ? I’m wearing them now with temporary cement and I don’t like how they look. They look Matt, and only shiny when I lick them. Also one more question. If they have to go back , what color of glaze will be used just to give them shine ?

Dr. Klim . I have been using the Katana Zr block a lot which is great but I noticed that the shade value is higher than proposed. I don't have an oven in the office to stain like you do. Should I request the lab to use a A3 block when in reality the patient's shade is A2. Thanks
@KlimDDS
@KlimDDS 4 жыл бұрын
With Katana, I will use one or two shades darker than the matching target shade. I also use infiltration colors to tone down zirconia value and increase saturation. Zirconia will come brighter since this material bounces light more than ceramics. That is the reason for choosing lower value shades and infiltration. You think is on the right track.

That is why I do CAD/CAM in my office, I often place the final crown in one appointment, or if two appointments are needed, the crown can be turned around in several days. Hope this helps. If you are using a lab, try using a lab that uses CAD/CAM, this is a faster turnaround. 1Thanks for the video. I have a question: how do you account for the thickness of the glaze and coloring so that the restoration in the final seating fits well (interproximally and occlusally)? Do you mill the designed crown with specific thickness? Thank you!
@KlimDDS
@KlimDDS Жыл бұрын
I do not change parameters because I am conservative with glaze thickness addition, particularly on the proximal contact, brush the glaze then. When firing some of the glaze with embed into the ceramic, the dimension difference is insignificant.

@KlimDDS
@KlimDDS 2 жыл бұрын
@@alisaker6739 The cycle of P3 or P1 does not matter. With the smaller firing tray, you can fire up to two restorations in 15 minutes. However, glaze outcomes still come down to the glaze addition technique. On another note, the Ivoclor Glaze Paste is easier to use and more consistent in the outcome. I use it for recrystallized addition as well.

Wow I wish u did my teeth. Btw why do some places charge $1k for emax and other places charge nearly $3k for emax?
@KlimDDS
@KlimDDS 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Fees are relative to aesthetic objectives, location in the mouth, and purpose for the restorations. Fees do vary from office to office and also the location of practice relative to the cost of living. For instance, to treat a single central front tooth takes more time and aesthetic skill, the fee for this type of care will usually be more. Also, fees reflect the expertise of the care provider. And fees can vary due to insurance contracts and plans vs fee-for-service care. All the best.
