I have 2 of these kits, but from different release years, 2010 and 2016. Both sets of instructions have text that spell out which part(s) to use depending on flight or landing mode. Apparently someone at Round2 decided that the text wasn't necessary anymore since you have the most recent release, the Search For Spock variant. Maybe they were conserving ink.

@TheSciFi Model Guy a good color choice for the BOP is Vallejo 71.011 Dark Green RLM83 and Vallejo 71.294 US Forrest Green both Model Air colors and then you can add whatever color you wanted to the wings as the wing panels had the most colors on them.

I'll try to remember that; i have another kit of this one. I will say though that after hitting it with the matte clear coat it darkened quite a bit.. i use Duplicolor Matt Wheel clear coat (you can get it at Autozone and it's a GREAT clear coat. It does darken the paint a bit more than Testors and other model brands but it works really well and has a nice medium sheen to it

Does the hairspray react to the paints that are applied after the salt?

I don't have that particular kit from PL/R2 I have the OG Generations boxing of the kit times 2 (Yes 2 AMT Klingon Birds of Prey.)

I never really believed that this kit is 1:350 scale. Personally I feel that it is somewhat undersized in comparison to other 1:350 scale trek kits. The BOP size controversy is well known.

Very well could be ! But, when I look at the ramp and imagine a 6ft person on it, and think about the size of a person on the 350 enterprise kit, i think it's pretty close. Could be a tad small for sure though. I'd love to read some more on it

And in the original AMT kit the instructions had cloaked mode as a joke mode.
