That's great! You won't be disappointed! It hasn't been covered yet on the build, but for painting it, used Tamiya copper , and for the one clear piece, clear blue. The light behind it will illuminate it just right. It comes wirh photo etch which I did not paint as it matched the tamiya copper pretty well

@XenoZero82 it's tricky but with some patience it will turn out fine, especially if you have the photo etch pieces, which cover it up wonderfully. However looking back I do wish I'd have smoothed it out more before applying the photo etch. It's barely noticeable but is something I'll do better on next time.

I just bought the 1990’s kit for £40/$52, shrink-wrapped from eBay! The original kits go for stupid money these days, so I guess I was lucky. Not sure if I should keep it as it is, or un-wrap the bugger and build it up? Probably one of AMT’s best kits, I bought it as a kid when it first came out. Great video mate, looking forward to seeing your build

That's a great buy! My thought is, build it. Models weren't meant to stay in a box... I bought a 90's style runabout and built it up (video series is here on the channel) and I absolutely loved doing it. I also built an original Battlestar Galactica from 1979! It felt SO GOOD to biild her as she was meant to be. I also have a DS9, a Colonial Viper, and Cylon Raider, all vintage that I can't wait to build. And, if your Enterprise is 1400 scale, the aztec decals you can get now should go on very nicely

On the bear wire you can use CA or UV Resin which is what I use to seal in the tinned wire. I like the raised lighting thinking of doing a design for 3D printing VS using old sprue ( printing them out going to be consent and faster when building ) I SURE HOPE you have video of lighting the star trek warp nacelles ( Green Strawberry on order ) over all loving the build I am making a special 3D printed base I send email later for the base

the lighting is looking really good. It now sorta makes me wish manufacturers would make slightly angled modeling lights that would cast a lighting spot illumination across the hull like in the TOS movies. the hardest suspension of disbelief i had in watching TNG all those years ago was seeing all the ships flying around in the darkest depths of space perfectly lit from all angles by an imaginary external lightsource. the enterprise flying at warp, yet the hull was lit up like a small sun was following it everwhere she traveled. no hull shadows, no running lights illuminating the registry letters, the sides of the neck, or equillateral spotlights across the entire ships body. just solar reflection all the time (which made absolutely no sense to my mind in the total darkness of space). #Enterprise

Regarding your lighting, I really dig it. You can not have too much light in the saucer, especially with the top outer ring of windows to be lit. Those aren't easy to light properly, but I'd say you have succeeded. Nice job!

I never knew Boyd personally but I loved his build videos and I learned quite a lot just by watching him. His death is a huge loss for the modelbuilding community and I love the idea of a U.S.S. Crompton with his birthyear as registration number. A perfect send off. He will be greatly missed.

Doing great, here's a little bit of advice for soldering non-holed terminals, first "TIN" the components terminal (place a touch of solder on the iron tip and place a drop of resin on the terminal then touch the hot solder on the resin, this is your "Tinning") then "TIN" your wire, now you have all of the soldering required to soldering the wire to the terminal, then place the tinned wire to the tinned terminal and heat them with the iron until you see the solder transfer from solid to liquid, then remove the heat and you're done! This is the style we do for aviation components, works good, lasts long time!!!

Coming along nicely, though i would like to point out that those external marker lights are in the wrong place, on the underside of the neck section there should only be one white and one red/green, the other white should be on the saucer part, and similar on the back of the neck there should only be one white light that should be positioned higher up to the right and left sides of the phaser strip, an the other light being on the saucer part, hope this helps provided you haven't now sealed up the neck section.

Hi, thanks for the input! I checked several flyby videos on KZbin and they show the lights where I have them , a couple do not... and, the lights in tbe show do vary a little from season to season, even when compared to the introduction, which was never updated. With so many variations I just went with what I liked best 🖖

there isn't a lot of blinking on the ship in fact there's only one light that blinks on the top of the saucer. go back and watch the episode again, also the light on the front of the saucer appears to be warm white
@thescifimodelguy
@thescifimodelguy 18 күн бұрын
Hi Jeff, Thank you for the comment! I know about the lights, I think I do mention it that I'm taking some liberty with them. Depending on the shot and the episode, the "strobe" (fast light) is on the bridge and on the bottom of the ship in the middle (it appears red on screen), and sometimes there is a strobe effect on the nacelles at times. And I don't see the port and starboard lights blinking at all.. but, I like the look so I put it in there :) in my mind I just see the ship as having different configurations of lights for different situations (i.e, approaching space dock, leaving space dock, in orbit, in formation, etc.). If I were making this for someone else I'd of course ask what their preference is.
@jeffkleist9679
@jeffkleist9679 18 күн бұрын
@@thescifimodelguy the red light I believe is actually the navigation light, I have watched that 60 seconds of footage eat too many times, which is why I finally concluded that the bow light is warm instead of straight white. Research indicates that the ship was built quickly likely with whatever electronics were lying around. They can just blame it on battle damage
