My wife and I saved for years to buy our first and last stereo. We have had a very inexpensive HT for years that has handled both music and movies. In 2019, after fourteen, interest free, monthly payments to a store, we finally got our stereo. It is a simple system. It consists of a basic CD player (the one piece that we intend to upgrade in a few years), a Primaluna E300 integrated tube amplifier, and a pair of the new AL5 Klipsch La Scala speakers. If you like Kilpsch, the La Scala sound is magical. Our living room is large which is a big plus when positioning these speakers. There's a lot of open space between the speakers and our seating allowing them to fill the room with the closest thing to a live performance sound that we heard in our 6+ months of system demos at several different stores. Of course, hearing is entirely subjective. We auditioned a number of other amazing speakers: some that cost less than the La Scalas and some that cost more than the La Scalas. No doubt, all of those other speakers will bring a big smile to someone's face. They were all stunning to look at, and they were very impressive in their performance. To our ears, the Klipsch sound captures individual notes from an instrument and subtle nuances from a singers voice beautifully. Their imaging capability places performers front and center in our listening area so extraordinarily well that you almost feel like the performers are in the room with you. It's amazing. It was worth the wait. In fact, we rallied and paid off the balance early because of the Covid related concerns regarding the speaker order (they were built to order) and their eventual shipping. We had agreed to eighteen monthly payments, initially. We would have gladly waited two years to acquire them - they are that good once you have them. We hope to add a CD player that also allows us to pass our laptop computer audio through it so we can listen to KZbin audio from videos that we find. That's how we often identify new music to purchase.

Thanks Pedro. We are still using our basic CD player. It might be another year or two before we can explore an upgrade. Funds are too tight to make such a purchase. We did hear an audible difference and noticeable improvements in the overall soundstage when the salespeople introduced higher priced CD players and higher priced DACS. Prior to those demo sessions, we definitely aired on the side of disbelief that a higher level CD player or a higher level DAC could actually improve the playback performance of a CD. After those demo sessions, we became believers. They do enhance the overall listening sound. It is amazing. I doubt that we would ever go full in and explore speaker wires or interconnects, but admittedly the cabling and speaker wire they were using at those stores was considerably more expensive than the cabling and speaker wire we are using at home. We will leave that consideration for probably another decade based on our budget.

Thank you. It's no surprise that every high end brand has a strong following of devoted owners and potential future owners - as well they should. In a world where a throw-away mindset has become the norm in response to cheaply made items, high end music equipment still enjoys a collection of elite, passionate manufacturers who are forever pursing the quintessential end result of beautiful sound while placing equal emphasis on aesthetic and build quality. When you find that brand which speaks to you at every level, it is magical. The phrase "warm fuzzies" is often used to describe the sensation that you feel when you are in the presence of said equipment and/or using it. For some of us, Klipsch garners that emotional and, dare I say, physical response.

Wow. Thanks, Sound Somm! Another awesome speaker demo. For me, the La Scala's are simply the best. Best live feel, best presence, best midrange. I am honestly trying to be unbiased but I keep saying yes to the La Scalas -- which incidently were named after the famous concert hall in Milano, near where this audiophile store is located.

We're powering the La Scalas with a Primaluna EVO 300 integrated tube amplifier that pushes less than 50 watts. We barely turn the volume knob and the depth and clarity of sound is astounding at a volume that quickly pushes the boundaries of a large listening room. I have tested their capability with a high volume setting, and the sound remained stellar. I had to stand outside on the back deck. It was absurdly loud. They could satisfy the volume requirements of an audience in a concert hall with this amplifier. Even the store advised us to save our money and not even consider anything more powerful than the EVO 300. It's stunning to hear individual, distinct notes from any instrument or the subtleties and nuances within a vocalists singing. I do feel that they are best matched to tube amplification or a solid state option that produces a tube like warmth. Of course, that's purely subjective.

@@TnapvrvideoAre the La Scalas lot better than the new Cornwall IVs?
@Tnapvrvideo
@Tnapvrvideo Жыл бұрын
I think it quickly becomes a decision based on several factors beginning with budget. From there, space requirements and overall appearance of the speaker also enter the decision. The La Scalas are sizable, unusual looking, and they perform best when they're floated off the back and side walls. Lastly, out-of-the-box, the Cornwall IVs have more bass and the La Scalas have a more defined upper range. We listened to both quite a few times before deciding on the La Scalas. We liked the idea that we could add REL bass down the road (not yet affordable for us). That said, a Klipsch enthusiast who loves the Klipsch sound will love either choice. They're both wonderful.

Mcintosh mc275, two if possible, the sound will be even bigger due to 2 separate amps (2 different power supply= no cross talking and bigger image), and a C22 or similar preamp c70 etc (Don't overlook chinese products, some are very inetresting and a perfect solution for these speakers). I have had these speakers for some years now. First I went for Audio Note conquest (mono 18watt each) and an M3. Of course the midrange was sublime, but 18 watts DO NOT create such a big stage and the micro-contrast IS NOT at this level. It has nothing to with the power available, it is about the current needed (ampers) to control the woofers. A big and sweet sounding push pull tube amp will give you 80.85% of the midrange of a SET amp BUT everything else is in another league. As you mght have understood, I finally went for two mc275. Never looked back. With the audio note I upgraded everything suggested by audio note (transformers, caps you name it), but still, a 300b doesn't have the pace, the bass control to make this loudspeaker sing. I've heard a few other systems with the La Scala II and flee watts amps. Good for a voice and a guitar, but the sound was flat, no contrast as there was no control of the woofers (not enough current). Don't be fooled by people saying that since they are 101db efficient (they are not 103 or 105), a two watt amp is enough. It is not true, it is enough for the "volume", 1 watt = 101 db, but they can't make the speakers sound as in this video. Anyways, as a general rule: high output impedance amplifiers = low damping factor, no more than 50 and the lower the better, and no more than 15db gain on the preamp (10 db better) or you will have a lot of background noise. Use XLR connection to have the quietest background. There is no need to spend a fortune on super exotic electronics, just a musical sweet sounding push push tube amp of AT LEAST 60/70 watts. If you want to go solid state, the best option is a class A amp like the sugden a21se or AI-4 (Pass lab have a higher damping factor, not as good as the Sugden with the La Scala), you can get 70% of the sound of a tube amp. If you get a class A/B ss amp, go for a sweet sounding one with the lowest damping factor you can find. Mcintosh sound nice. Some vintage receivers sound decent as well. The worst results are with ss amps with a high damping factor or, even worse, class D; with the latter the la scala sound very dry (lifeless), totally out of balance, avoid them like the plague
