Good job! I haven't tried the 15" but I recently measured the 18" Ultimax and was really impressed.
@dickydoesaudio34663 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the 18 does have a bit more output then the 15. I'm thinking of building 2 dual enclosures for the 15's to free up some floor space in my room.
@xfx9903 жыл бұрын
it not always about the SPL of the subwoofer , the accuracy and the quality of the bass it will be very different and yes you are right about the size and the power difference but the dayton ultimax is winner in every other aspect

Psa is supposed to have some really nice subs. I'd like to check them out someday. I've heard svs/klipsch/ jtr / and my own diy um18's and 15's. I've heard a lot of good things about Psa.

You said the ultimax was louder but what about the rest? Quality, sound character, depth of bass, speed of transients... etc. So many other things you can give us an opinion that matter a lot more than dB anyway

what is the spec of the box ft3 and tuning?
@dickydoesaudio34663 жыл бұрын
The box for the ultra look alike is 9 cuft with 3, 4 inch ports that I believe are 34 inches long tuned to 19hz. It's been a few years since I built them. Anywhere close to this should get you pretty close to that 19hz tune, 9 and a half cuft would be good.

I didn’t see you mention much about the power they were getting though. The Klipsch amp is putting out around 400 watts Rms. How much power is going to the Dayton audio subwoofer? Seems the Klipsch is performing quite well considering, as I would guess, you are throwing much more power at the Ultimax.
@dickydoesaudio34663 жыл бұрын
The Klipsch is getting the rated power for that sub which is 400 watts rms 800 watts peak. The ultimax driver was getting around 1000 watts rms and around 1500 peak... The watts would only make a difference if one of the drivers wasn't getting the required wattage it needed to get maximum performance. In this case they are both getting all they can handle.
@kennysale58402 жыл бұрын
@@dickydoesaudio3466 The Behringer NX4-6000 is only about 400 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohm.

I feel like I could have kept going with the Klipsch, I was afraid of the subwoofer unloading under tune frequency, so I stopped. I Honestly believe the output numbers could be a little closer..
@abielpangga63143 жыл бұрын
i dont think you have to worry. generally they have compression to avoid overloading, but i guess when compression happens, it doent really help with the lower frequencies.
@dickydoesaudio34663 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was only worried because I was starting the sweep below the tune frequency of the Klipsch. I was afraid it would unload below tuning and blow the driver. The Klipsch still had some output left . Not sure it would have been enough to get close to the um15, but the Klipsch is definitely a worthy subwoofer. I don't car what anyone says.
@KnowName333 жыл бұрын
@@dickydoesaudio3466 I wouldn't have worried about it I've always played subwoofers well below box tuning and fs and never blown one yet
@dickydoesaudio34663 жыл бұрын
@@KnowName33 if the sub is pushed to hard below tuning it will unload and start flapping uncontrollably. It's easy to blow the driver doing that. I'm not saying you can't play below tuning it's just not recommended at high volume
@KnowName333 жыл бұрын
@@dickydoesaudio3466 not all subs unload instantly when playing below tuning just run a sweep at like 50% volume and see when it actually unloads

I have a ultimax 18 that I built just like these. Once I bring it back in the house I might do an excursion video of bothe the 15 and 18.

Which soundstage you liked better Klipsch or Dayton?
@dickydoesaudio34663 жыл бұрын
The Dayton ultimax has more output but it comes at the cost of having a much larger enclosure. The Klipsch has a lot of output and is smaller. If you have room for the ultimax I would go that route, and if not the Klipsch will definitely get the job done in most rooms.
