KLM Economy Comfort upgrade not worth it SFO-AMS

I always bring chocolates for the cabin crew on whichever airline I fly. I do this with zero expectations of reward. Once I was given one of the Delft houses. On BA my husband and I were given champagne and on another BA flight, offered any cockrails we wanted. And once when some people refused to give up our seats that they had taken over, we were taken up front to much more comfortable and spacious seats. It's just good karma to be kind to the cabin crew.

KLM upgrade to Economy Comfort......not worth it. The crew on my side was so reluctant to serve extra beverages....it almost seemed liked she was paying for the beers herself. The food was the most bland in my 29 years of flying. The entertainment system was not working for the entire 9 hr flight from AMS to MSP. KLM did send me an email for a EUR 50 voucher.....but still have no credit on my account. I will now avoid any flights on KLM.....

I would prefer a regular row i economy as I can lift the center arm rests and sleep on a 3 seat bed.

Flew it Bos to AMS - last year you get more leg room and that's the end of it. No priority boarding , no reserved overhead bin space - better off on Delta.

KLM customer support is the worst you can imagine. Had a few occasions. Too bad, since it could be an airline to be proud of as a country. Once on board everything is fine though, having flown wit hthem many many times.

I am looking to book KLM economy because I hear good reputation, but super long haul because 1) I have never flown with KLM, I usually take ANA or JAL economy 2) I have never been to Europe in my life so why not have to try long af flight and experience about the hype about KLM, Dutch, Paris from excellent to worst hehe 3) cheap ticket. Many flights with KLM to Amsterdam. Good comfort, service, flight and very friendly. No issues.

No issues with 787-10 LAX to AMS.. Premium Economy for party of 6. better than Air France and United on similar products. We are taking the same flight later this year in July.

I respectfully dissent. Economy comfort to me is WELL worth the the additional cost. I am 6'2" and not obese/fat. So to me having 4-5" extra legroom is a HUGE plus. Don't need a wider seat, fancy food etc. Not worth it to me to upgrade to prem economy.

Yep missed a few shots for my first video, sorry. The seat was exactly the same as an economy seat, just with more leg room and additional recline.

Just flew KLM’s Economy Comfort (Dubai-Amsterdam), and I’d echo your score. Leg room was great, food was neither inspiring nor filling. Only beer & wine, really? 😢 Seat felt like some mid-evil butt-torture device. Flight attendant staff was great, though. Top notch. Bulkhead seat at least meant no seat reaching back into my face. Oh, and make sure you take your own headphones-theirs were horrible. I couldn’t hear any dialogue particularly clearly.

Actually it used to be fantastic: a separate small cabin, with 2-2-2 seats, as opposed to 3-3-3, for example. Recline factor was GREAT and even though it wasn't good as Business, it was nevertheless enough. Nowadays, well... no separate cabin, so behold noise chances; pseudo separate section for baggage, but stewardesses don't enforce it; recline factor is bad, like 1% or 2% more than standard economy.

@@calberto What are you even talking about? The Premium Comfort has a 2-3-2 seating and didn't exist before. No KLM wide body aircraft ever featured a 2-2-2 cabin in the Economy Comfort Zone, the configuration always has been the same as in regular Economy but with extra legroom and extra recline.

In my opinion, KLM is excellent for short haul within Europe but leaves a lot to be desired on long haul. Out of the 6 long haul flights (thrice return), only once did I feel their crew were trying to keep the customers. Its like they knew we were flying with them for being the cheapest. Since I live in the Netherlands, I can't really avoid KLM especially for work related travel. Also, Dutch people are quite direct and efficient so even a well meaning gesture like your gift may not be viewed positively.

Yes, my connecting flight from Amsterdam to Cardiff was fine. Small aircraft (Embraer 190), but hey, it was just an hour and five minute flight.

You have never been unlucky to be on an air france flight i guess ;-). I didn't have that many airlines, but from the big ones i had oversees (something canada, delta air france, klm) KLM was by far the best.

I'm retired FAA ATC, I poke my head in the cockpit sometimes to say hi, usually long haul if I'm flying in business class. As far as a gift for the flight deck, no can't say I have ever done that.

Unfortunately it was the same size seat as regular economy. It just came with more legroom and more recline. The new Premium Economy seats are far larger though.
