Vai instantly jumped in with a fitting and smooth lead run like they'd been playing together for decades. Fucking amazing.

The pace that Steve seemingly spits out musical ideas while improvising is such a testament to how great a musician he is.

Jones is a solid guitar player. He plays rock music. He can play rhythm and lead. Great sense of melody. He has a good tone and time. Good guitarist.

I'm 23 and been into the Pistols since my Mum put me onto them as a kid. John was always my guy but discovering Jonesy's Jukebox has given me a new found appreciation for Steve. And just how great his guitar playing was. What a guy. Keep up the great interviews Jonesy!

When Zappa was asked which guitarists he liked he specifically mentioned Brian May... So Vai's mentor himself definitely gave him the credit he deserved while he didn't do that kind of thing very often... He wasn't easily impressed so it's a huge compliment

I have to say my generation of guitar heroes has been so helpful. They of course have internet now. Paul Gilbert showed us all so many techniques and tricks. So giving. All in hopes that the next generation will do something amazing. No ego. Promoting their instrument. The guitar.

hahaha brilliant, you'd struggle to get two guitarists more different for background, style, personality etc etc but they are so similar - they are who they are and they do their own thing and stick to it. where else can you get vai wailing all over jonesey's acoustic? i shouldn't work but it did!
@TheGreatAlan754 жыл бұрын
That was so technically good. How does Jonesy do it ?!
@donald-parker5 жыл бұрын
Nice words about Brian May but I think it falls short. Besides being a great musician, song writer, guitar player, and guitar builder, he is an astrophysicist, animal rights activist, and innovative photographer using stereoscopy. And probably a few other things. I have the feeling that a few hundred years from now (assuming we are around) he will be remembered similarly to how we remember Da Vinci today.

Listening to SV since Flex-able and the man never ceases to disappoint. Still can make the hairs stand up with his playing. The jam sounded like an instrumental of Hard Sun by Gordon Peterson later covered by Eddie Vedder for Into the Wild soundtrack.

Right? Except with Vai he's so freakin' good you have to wonder if he did it just to step outside. His live shows - he doesn't play blue notes that you can be 100% sure of.

Vai is AMAZING. I don't listen to that kind of music much, the only thing I have with him on it is that PiL album, but holy shit can he play. What a solo on their jam here. Jonsey tried to get Dweezil Zappa to do this kind of thing and Zappa was just like "what are you playing? I don't know where you're going" kind of thing. Vai just takes OFF in half a second, and never runs out of steam like I said, Amazing.

I would put Brian May in the same league as Mick Ronson for not just his playing style but for the contribution the lead playing had to the melody of the songs.

As much as I respect vais style and recognise that he's a truly amazing technician. For me he pales in comparison to steve jones. Ye he may not be technically amazing but he has such a great rhythmic feel and just such power. U might be able to play a pistols song but it won't sound as good.
