Even after 6 years,,, still helping people! Thanks... Worked perfectly! But you forgot to (talk) about the : LED Flasher Relay..... But its on the parts list at the end.

If you have LED turn signals, they don't draw enough power to light up the incandescent turn signal indicator on the dash panel. You need to replace it with an LED, but then you have to install this diode kit. Based on this video, I bought the two-wire diode kit for the turn signal indicator. It wired up just as you explained, but you still have to guess which way the LED light goes in the socket, and turn it around if you guess wrong. One bit of advice on the ground wire: there's a ground wire screwed right to the underneath side of the instrument panel. just touch the ground wire from the indicator light to the various wires screwed to the panel, and you'll eventually find the ground. I think it's the center wire among three. Don't recall what color it was. Great video, and great explanation. Now every light on my KLR is an LED.

If anyone sees this comment and can help me, please do. I hooked up the diode just like you did in this video and still both blinkers are on at the same time no matter how I hook them up, the back ones would be too but I don’t have them connected. Plus when I ground the grey wire nothing works which would bring me to believe that i have a short somewhere. Green wire coming from blinker light with diode leader going to harness other wire leftover is grounded which turns everything off and it doesn’t matter if i go the exact opposite route and have the diode leader coming from the grey wire and ground the green wire, everything still turns off, even without it grounded going the opposite route all blinkers flash at the same time. My patients is running out!

Yeah I think ill just stick to the headlight and taillight. Thats the big save in power so I can power other things but thank you for walking through it for us.

nice work dude, electrical work can be tricky if you're not up on it. gotta get one of those Cyclops headlights for my 98 it's like riding with a candle.

This video was very informative. when I turn my blinders so that the left signal should work they all flash and when I flip it to the other side only faint dim light comes through. It was work just a few days ago though so I don't understand how that worked. Now I will see if that diode thing works.

Hey bro I have a 2003 klr 650 I bought led signals for it and a flasher relay? That good to run them was what I was told! Won’t run the led signals without the flasher relay?

I changed all of my turn signals to LED blinkers and installed a LED relay but when I turn on my blinkers all of them flash and the blinker indicator on the speedo doesn’t flash u think if I wire up that diode it would work?
@hillkiller106 жыл бұрын
I know I’m late but I’ve recently bought a Gen 1 KLR and want to convert to LED. I’ve got all the parts from this vid but I’m not sure on the relay. Would you mind posting a follow up video on how and where you installed the relay?

Okay update on previous comment….. i didn’t exactly have the diode connected in the same place, well i did from the blinker indicator light but to a spot further along the loom. In other words what i thought where the blinker wires were in fact, not. But now upon fixing that problem the blinkers do blink individually but i still have the grounding issue. When i ground the extra wire left over everything quits working, i do have a regular blinker indicator bulb. So would switching to an l.e.d bulb solve the grounding issue since they have a tiny diode built into them?

Where do you get those usb dash hubs? I can’t seem to find them anywhere
@Keith12125 жыл бұрын
If your talking about the entire dash where I have the 12v socket, usb, and switches I made that. I used a cardboard template to get the shape of the dash. Then I cut it from thin study metal and added tabs that bend up to match the windshield bolts. Then just undid the windshield and mounted it. Thanks for watching!

Can you show us what wires you spliced into on the harness to install the diode? It wasn't clear in the video or explanation. I'm assuming the diode splits the positive on the blinker indicator light between the left and right sides so the left and right can blink independently? Then the ground wire on the blinker gets rerouted to a ground somewhere on the bike. So, is the diode only useful for the blinkers? Is it not being used to control voltage for any other light? Or, is the blinker indicator light either the very first or the last wire in the whole circuit where the diode can regulate the voltage from the klr electrical system so that all of the LEDs can actual function? is the tail LED light and the Cyclops LED system both on a separate circuit from the diode? Do these lights have an appropriate diode already installed on the light? Thanks in advance
@Keith12127 жыл бұрын
Ok well the led headlight just plugs in no mods necessary. Same with the brake light. plug it in and it works. The signals is the only part requiring a modification when switching to LED. You can buy an led flasher relay and replace the stock on on the KLR or install the resistor like I did in the video. At @5:23 I show what I'm gonna explain next. Pretty much just take out your turn signal bulb from your dash. Cut both wires and sit the bulb aside. Then connect both wires that had previously connected to the turn signal dash bulb to the two wires on one end of the resistor. Then grab the turn signal dash bulb you sat aside and connect one wire to the other end of the diode that has only one wire. Then the last remaining wire on the turn signal dash bulb should be grounded any where a common ground is. So yes the resistor is only for the turn signals and not the led headlight or tail light. They need no voltage regulation because it is built into the bulbs. Hope this helps thanks for watching.

Thanks man!

So it's an either or on the resistor or the flasher relay? Why did you chose to splice into your wires vs just plugging in a new relay?
@2crow2357 жыл бұрын
Keith 1212... not to beat a dead horse, but just so I understand, you're Cyclopes LED headlight was plug and play (besides cutting the boot)? I ask, because other videos have made it sound like installing one on a Gen 1 KLR is like building Frakensteins monster. They have had to alter the housing and use JB Weld to hold the thing in place, etc.
@Keith12127 жыл бұрын
Yep it is completely plug and play with the housing. Only reason you have to cut the boot is because it won't fit over the cyclops leds heatsink and fan. No jb weld required :) Thanks for watching!

I have a cyclops coming in the mail. Can you elaborate on exactly how you cut the boot, and what did you need to velcro?
@Keith12128 жыл бұрын
The boot was basically cut from the center hole down one side to make a slit for the cyclone housing to slide in. The velcro was just to hold the little 2"x1" box that is attached to the cyclone. You don't have to velcro it, but on my bike it was in the way. You could probably zip tie it out of the way as well. Thanks for watching!
@Hehanni8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes zip-ties will match the rest of my bike nicely!

So glad you made the product list, super easy to follow. They've discontinued the turn signal bulbs you used but recommended the newer replacements. I am a lil confused on the flasher relay tho, your link shows a flat plug in style while other sites are showing a 90° two prong relay!?
@Keith12127 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the 90 degree two prong you found. It's been awhile since I did this install, but I think with my flasher I cut the plug off and wired it in. So it may be the same with the one your looking at, but I would have to see it. Thanks for watching!
