Very neat! I thought you were going to mix the cotton balls with the crayons; crayons for colour and fill-in medium, cotton balls for stability; sorta like straw in cob or wattle in plaster. This was pretty good too! Maybe shred those paper sleeves up into confetti bits and suspend them in clear resin, in a rainbow gradient? Or maybe mini-micarta?
@ChillyJack2 жыл бұрын
I feel like you could get a really cool look with the cotton balls if you stuck to 2 or 3 colors and stretched the resin soaked cotton out and loosely twisted the different colors together instead of just putting them in a mold with the colors separated like you did. Cotton + Resin is basically micarta. Something similar to chopped carbon fiber. With a similar process to what is used for making chopped CF, I bet you could get really good a really strong result with a mold that allows you to use clamping pressure instead of the pressure pot and is also designed to allow excess resin to flow out when it is clamped.

this channel is a study in hindsight. what we learned today; when making anything crayon that has a bit of mass, use a core, threaded rod or something. when melting many crayon colors, they homogenize, isolate colors when melting and only mix them during the pour.... (can you nuke them in the microwave?) cottonballs are messy but cool! suggestion for future project: use cotton pads instead, might let you mix color layers (or make micarta out of it)
