This time and place shaped my musical sensibilities forever after. Amazing shows DJ Red Alert or Stretch and Bobbito were delivering amazing new music every time they came on the air. Every week I'd finish listening and have another new group that I'd be trying to buy a tape of at The Warehouse (remember that place?) or having some argument with a friend during lunch about whether BDP really just ended a whole crew's careers (for the record, they totally did that shit) or whether New Jack was just a fad or was it here to stay (long live Black Sheep, Nice and Smooth, and Eric B & Rakim). I've found some recordings of long blocks from Red Alert's show uploaded here on KZbin, and listening to that shit just takes me all of the way back to being a kid again and running the streets. I used to record shows off of the radio and trade them with my cousin, but I lost my whole tape collection when I moved to San Diego around the year 2000. Sad shit, because I still want to hear Rob Bass, Salt n Peppa, Biz, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew, Kid & Play, and Lucas ("Lucacentric" being a hugely underrated album, imho, but Atlantic's roster was DEEP in those days) on those tapes like when I was a kid and my walkman was the greatest source of entertainment that a kid could ask for. Anyways, I got a question for you guys and gals out there: when you listen to "Scenario" these days, are you more likely to listen to the album version or the remix version?

@suave_d4 жыл бұрын
I was also thinking that. The way that they rhymed back then was so poetical and technical, and they flowed very well with the beat. I also like the visuals that they used to paint pictures with their rhymes. It was the little things and intricate details that made MCs like them so special back then.
@pejoshy87364 жыл бұрын
@@TheNinja94a No. Dooms prime was 1990 with his group KMD. He was like 20 back then, rhyming fast and clear. To you, Doom prime was 2000, but to us, that was a gimmick. Doom slowed his rap down, so white kids can understand, his words were slightly mumbled as Doom. He was already about 30 years as Doom. Yes, even rappers have primes, but his Doom version bodies any mumble rapper today, the KMD version, it's a rap massacre of any rapper you hear today. Today's rap is nada
