@b1odin39 it's a damn shame it wasn't the anthem. To me, this song represents what the World Cup is about, feeling proud of the unity that this game is supposed to bring. Not many international competitions can do this(even the Olympics has a hard time with it) and when you hear the drum beat and then it goes into the chant that doesn't have to be difficult to learn. It's a lot closer to ricky Martin's theme. honestly, the fact that there were several versions with international singers made it great. I can tell you I have to look up the lyrics to waka waka and they just don't convey the message this one does. The simple request knaan makes in lyrics is how everyone should feel during and after the event ends, regardless of outcome. "Staying forever young, singing songs underneath the sun. Let's rejoice in the beautiful game and together at the end of the day, we'll all say! "When I get older, I will be stronger, they'll call me freedom, just like a wavin flag".

Hey, I wished you reacted to the original version of this song from his second album. The tone, melody, lyrics and meaning of the song is totally different to this pop version he had to do for the world cup. This version is really stupid, repeats the words and doesn't mean anything. It's purely to get paid and I don't blame him for it but unfortunately a lot of people only heard of this version without the original which is fire. Would be nice if you could do that one and generally check out The Dusty Foot Philosopher and Troubadour, my two favourite albums.

I'll agree that the original is much more thoughtful and is the better version. However, please don't call this version stupid. Understand that the World Cup can unite us all when we are in friendly competition, no wars, and no hate(aside from fifa corruption). To those(like me) who heard this and felt absolute goosebumps, we felt the words, though simple, resonate with us. It isn't about getting into it with the other teams and not giving up. It's one of the most honest requests in song form. Simply be proud of who you rep, but remember that this competition, regardless of outcome, will unite us and make us better and stronger. It honestly should have been the anthem for the World Cup and not the nonsense shakira sang.
