If it's on plaster board wall you may want to use "Curley Whirly screws" they're white and fat. They drive right into the plaster board.

Use drywall anchors but be aware you will lose weight capacity.

I have the dual track system. What kind of screws are needed through the brackets into the shelf boards? I tried installing some, your basic screw of a length that should go halfway into the shelf board, but they don't stay in, they just drop right out.

What length screws to attach the brackets to the shelf boards? The back one seems incredibly long. Also, how would one go about putting a rail around this so items don't slide off the shelf in case of an earthquake (which is a potential where I live).

As long as you get long screws in the studs it will hold people have problems when they try to use drywall anchors

What is the benefit of using the hang track at the top? Is it necessary?

Brooke Cassady it’s far easier to make sure your vertical rails are level especially when using something shorter that’s not a full floor to ceiling rail

this shelving systems is crap. i have the knape and vogt 180 wh 12. shelf falls down repeatedly with .5 lbs on it

I beg to differ. I'm checking this page because our laundry room in our 1968 house has some shelves that need to be repositioned. Never had an issue with it, and has held up lots of gallons of detergent and pounds of other stuff.
