What really happens in a cold bell tower on New Year's Eve around midnight. When everyone else in town is somewhere warm with food and drink and people to hug, there will be people like this in the dark and cold ringing in the New Year.
This is the St John's Church Knaresborough band, assisted by friends from other towers between 2345 on the last day of 2014 and 0015 on the first day of 2015.
As the bells are set ready for ringing, the mechanisms that normally cause the clock chimes to strike the quarters and the hour have been disengaged, requiring the Twelve 'bongs' to be done manually.
Mild panic sets in in the run up to Twelve as we realise that the 'accurate' atomic ringing room clock has thrown a wobbly and we are in danger of being 2 minutes late.
You couldn't write this stuff! Thrilling!
