Great overview :) The reason it's a charisma check for initiative is because it's side-based initiative: we roll to see which team leader can manoeuvre/command their side to act first. (Side note, even if it's a one-on-one, if you've ever been in a fist fight you know it can take a lot of determination/confidence/aggression/force of personality to "pull the trigger" and throw the first punch. Still, I might house rule that if only one player is entering combat, they may roll dex instead.)

An interesting perspective. Mechanically it's good to make charisma have more weight in the game than it does. I like that Paladins are now mechanically aligned to their archetype.

I use Knave often for its fun tables so I am eager to grab the 2e as well. There are some great ideas here in 2e, but some are not so great such as direct damage removing equipment slots. I can just picture a player's bewildered face as there PC with 5 pieces of armor, sword and dagger, rations, rope, and spellbook (10 slots) falls off a balcony of a shop during a rooftop chase, rolls a 6 for damage then must leave a pile of expensive gear in some street urchin's alley. Lucky day for the kid!

Interesting and agree…I guess I would adjudicate that some equipment broke/damaged or was left behind unintentionally (slipped out of the bag).

Yeah. the “piñata effect” is a common criticism of Knave but simple to house rule. In my games, players don’t lose the gear immediately, but after the event/encounter they have to remove gear on wounded slots before moving on. It’s easy to think of it as a CON issue, since CON is what grants more slots. Wounded knaves are just too beat up/tired to lug around all that equipment!

20:47 The last line on the bottom right of pg 4 is missing. It should say "...and holding a shield in one hand increases it to 8." I hope they caught that before it was sent to the printers! 😬
