Knave 2e and Why it Should be on EVERY GM's Shelf!

Great video! I have begun a Cairn campaign, and backed the Knave 2E on KS because much of Cairn was inspired by Knave. I am looking forward to using many of the resources that come with Knave.

Yeah, I’m pretty fascinated by the way he focused on using the existing “OSR” stat block, and utilized it in a very different way. I also like that he gave great reasoning and attribution for his choices. Ben is top notch!

I was originally hesitant to back it not knowing if I really needed it in my library. Backed it at the very last second and holy moly it’s good! The art, the game, two d100 tables to a page. So useful. I will say that I guess we’ll have to see for the print version, but the most recent PDF release had a table of contents which shows all the table. Additionally , references to a table within another table are now hyperlinked so it’s super fast to find what you want.

I did notice that the cross referenced tables within tables were linked and I appreciated that for sure! Maybe it is from watching too much Captain Courageous, but I really like to have an index. Lol

I love this game! It is exactly what I've been looking for since I picked up TTRPGs last year. Also, thanks for the continuing great content. I think the movie clips are getting getting better. They seem to blend in more and be less disruptive and still funny.

Dean, glad that you found the book for you(and it just happens to be one everyone should own, bonus)! Regarding the clips, appreciate that you noticed. Like I said, I get feedback from different angles. Some folks liked them, and some didn’t. Had to find a happy medium. They make the process more fun for me, because these pop culture voices are constantly giving me feedback as I partake in the content I talk about, so the clips give you an idea of what is running through my head as I’m playing and reading these games. I’m very tempted to run Gods of the Forbidden North on this, even over Shadowdark. Any opinions on pros/cons you can think of?

I really think as a SYSTEM, it’s greatest strength is that it is going to handle any low-mid fantasy setting very well. It is extremely flexible in its application, and I think if you want to play a gritty and lower power game, this is going to work for you. The combination of simplicity in design and the classless creation is going to give you a lot of leeway here. Welcome back to the comments Paul!

Questing Beast put a link on his channel for pre-orders back in the fall. They seem to be in the same distribution as the KS copies (I started getting KS updates after purchase). I think DriveThruRPG may have the digital copies available, but I’m not 100% on that.

Great review. Again one stuff I missed... Do a small LP. No need to be fancy. Keep it damn simple. Most of us anyhoo are somewhere (even me) accustomed to DnD. OSR is great in the fact it offers lots of universe. And something different of savage world.
