I turned 7 in 1972. Did anybody notice this one girl on the left at 2:19 had blonde bangs and a blonde streak in her hair? This was before punk and new wave.

That Shell gas commercial got me thinking. “Or Nonleaded Shell of the future” We ended up calling it Unleaded. Mid 80s I was Working at a Full Service Chevron in Nor CaI. One of the products we sold was Lead additive in a steel round cans. We sold Unleaded and Regular (“Regular” gas had the lead). But people would want to buy unleaded with higher Octane and add the lead in their older cars. Many people had thoughts on it. Debates at the pumps totally normal. Love this KZbin channel. Priceless.

Then you probably remember when cars began to be made with an unleaded only spout. This led to people punching out a larger hole so they could use the leaded pump.Leaded gas was around several years after unleaded appeared.

42:09 - That fight at Lubitsch's house happened in 1934, and was big news at the time. The "handicapped man", Herbert Marshall, had lost a leg in WWI. The writer whose name Gloria tries to recall, was John Monk Saunders. He was Fay Wray's first husband. He was a Rhodes scholar, who did a 3-year degree in only a year & a half. He wrote "Wings", which was adapted into the first movie to win an Oscar for Best Picture. He wrote many other successful movies, until that fight with Herbert Marshall got him blackballed. Saunders had been an alcoholic for most of his life. Though he had a live-in nurse, he hanged himself in a beach cottage, in March, 1940.
