I wasn’t in LA at the time of the 87 earthquake but in 1989…I was there in San Francisco in July of 89 my first time visiting The City. It was hard to imagine anything happening to the most beautiful and breathtaking area in the entire country! I went back East for my sophomore year in undergraduate school and a girl I dated at the time ran into the college library were I was working and told me about the quake from watching the World Series! I couldn’t reach my friend who lived in Sacramento for like 2 weeks! Many mixed emotions as I watch this video and the profound sadness I felt about that marvelous city! But also encouraged by the bravery shown by all citizens to help out! God bless San Francisco!

I was just 5 years old living in my grandparents house in Paramount was early in the morning and fild so strong. Now I'm 39 years old . 34 years ago.

I always remember that earthquake on a day like today, October 1st. It was quite hot that day, 110 degrees in Pasadena. I was stopped at a red light when it started. My dog was unable to sleep all night, I realized he knew what was going to happen.

Remember the quake, the second quake that hit oct 4, 1987, at 3:00 am or 4:00 am, I was only 6 years old, I was at my aunt and uncle house in Stanton, Ca, I was sleeping on the floor, and it woke me up, the windows in their house rattled for about a min really long, did not feel harsh shaking just a long sway back and forth, but if you lived in Pasadena it was probably stronger. Stanton in the O.C is pretty far from Whittier, although it was felt there pretty well.

Who would ever thought that an earthquake that struck Los Angeles would occur on the same day as Johnny Carson's 25th anniversary of hosting "The Tonight Show", October 1, 1987, is BEYOND me!

I left the L.A. area December 1986 - barely 7 months before the Whittier quake. I seem to just miss major earthquakes in CA by weeks, if not days. Drove through the Bay Area twice about two weeks before the World Series quake; visited my daughter in Long Beach in '94 about 3 weeks before the Northridge quake. Drove US-395 past Topaz Lake just 6 days before the Antelope Valley quake there on the border with NV and CA. The one major quake I _didn't_ avoid was the Sylmar quake in 1971. Had a front row seat for that one and it was terrifying.

Keith Morrison -- stepdad of the late Matthew Perry, who at this point in time was getting his break in showbiz.... Kelly Lange was a seasoned vet. I remember when KNBC first hired her in the early 70s to be their weather lady when Tom Snyder was anchoring the news. He harrassed the hell out of her, _on air_ quite often during her weather segments; but she hung in there and when I returned to the L.A. area in 1984, there she was co-anchoring the news. I haven't checked lately but I wouldn't be surprised if she was still there.

I was in East LA College at the time. I remember all of a sudden the glass from the library windows fell right on a few feet away from my back. It was so scary.

A few days after all this occurred, me and my family escaped to Arizona to spend fun filled days there. I was 9.

Would you happen to have 2 On The Town Beatles Special in 87. I have the first part on cassette. Second part was shown in Nov while I was at Beatlefest

I might have that special. Have a lot of DVDs. When I transferred from VHS I didn't label everything.

Remember it very well. Was living in Hollywood then. Northridge was the last straw. Threw me 400 miles east.

Remember it as well lived in Riverside near downtown very, very, very far from the epicenter , and felt both the Whittier Narrows quake and aftershock, Northridge as well, I was very far from both epicenters.
