In this video, I'm showing you how to make a circle cutting jig that attaches to one of my bandsaws that allows me to make circles out of any natural wood, plywood or MDF, all that is required is a small hole in my wood for the pivot point on the jig to sit in. Watch the video to see how I made this useful Bandsaw jig.

USE A WIDE BLADE WITH FINE TEETH... I went through (BROKE) 4 blades cutting 8 circles of plywood 92 more to go. I did this before I figured out the wider fine tooth blade was the best choice. And I only used the fine tooth blade because it was my last choice. I cut 42 circles with the fine blade till I ran out of wood. (I'm using a small table top band saw too)

If you get to this I need to ask . When cutting small circles of 3 inch Dias ,do you need a narrower blade?

You could improve your centering hole a little by cutting the bolt off flush with the tabletop when fully tightened and then drill a hole on the (center) end of the bolt and insert a small finish nail in it with epoxy. That way you don't have such a big hole in the middle. I really like the idea though and think the leg brace is a must also with that far of a distance from the bandsaw table. I really enjoy your videos!

I like your design. I am going to make the top plastic piece longer to get it closer to the blade so I can cut smaller circles. Using a wood dowel for the pivot and staying with the bolt on the other end to lock it down.

I like the adjust system but i think you will want to use another piece of the same mdf on the other side of the blade so you get more support for the wood and a cleaner cut.

ive watched a few of these on the tube.and im going with yours a lot less to do to make one. also to get the flat spot out . all you have to do is make a little notch where you are going to start the circle it will keep it from having a flat spot . im using mine to make my rounds for turning

Awesome. I do not have a bandsaw yet but in the future I buy one and then I can make this great little jig. Can you recommend a minimum hp for a small bandsaw? I mainly use pine till 5 cm of thickness.

How is the pivot point locked in place so that when the desired Radius is set, it will not move? This looks like the one I want to make. Very nice Jig and good presentation.

Nice re-think of the common bandsaw circle jig, Colin. I was thinking maybe the narrow blade deflected a little to cause the flat spots?

GREAT video Colin. That concept can easily be adapted to almost any bandsaw. I especially like that it is clamped to the saw so it is sturdy AND safe.

PLEASE!!!! Stand to one side of the blade, ESPECIALLY when cutting small pieces. I got hit right above my belly with a small oak block that caught the blade and the pain was excruciating! Not to mention I was laying on the ground trying to get my breath back for about 10 minutes. The next day I had an 18" round bruise YES I WAS USING THE BLADE COVER but the block I was cutting is what hit me... I FEEL IT NOW! OUCH!

Noticed your extension table was not level when you cut the sample circle. Would that be the cause of the little flat area?

Buy a plastic cutting board and cut your runners from that. (Thick used ones are cheap at goodwill or any thrift store) For mine, I flattened some thick PVC pipe (The green one) and made my runner out of a strip of that. I rubbed a candle on it and that made it slide real smooth

You need a bigger square to make the circle. I use about 1 inch bigger than the finished size.

The problem with this jig is that you will get 2 flat spot opposite of each other on your circle regardless of circle size.

no you wont if you put a little notch into the side of the board and slide the piece of wood in and you will not have a flat spot .
