Detailed biomechanical analysis and discussion on Knee joint motions. The possible motions of knee joint that is tibiofemoral joint are- KNEE FLEXION, KNEE EXTENSION, LATERAL & MEDIAL ROTATION,ABDUCTION AND ADDUCTION. This kinematic movement occurs around an instantaneous axis of knee joint.
This video focus on mechanics of knee flexion and extension and in particular axis of motion, the roll and glide occurring along with motions. Knee flexion can occur either as movement of femur on fixed tibia or tibia on fixed femur. The arthokinematics and osteokinematics movement associated with both this movements is entirely different are discussed in detail.
The ACL AND PCL do have a significant role in knee flexion and extension; along with cruciate ligaments the knee menisci also have a significant contribution to knee joint motions.
Further discussion also focus on KNEE RANGE OF MOTION OF FLEXION AND EXTENSION as well as role of muscles in limiting Range of motion
