After about a month of trying and trying to get this trick, in a bit of frustration I stopped hooping for about a week. Next time I tried it, I couldn't believe it, but I did it on the first attempt! Because I couldn't quite believe it happened, I performed it over and over again. Anyway, it is because of your instruction I finally got it. For me, I think the "pulse" was the key. Thank you so much. Please keep making these great videos.

I think the material of the pants you wear makes a big difference too. Some material is slippery for a hoop. Bare legs/shorts are the best.

So I've been looking at tutorials for this for a couple hours. This was the only one I could find that actually makes sense to me! I love how you explained that you need control over all your legs, not just your knees or hips, but that middle ground too. I'll be practicing that all night. Thank you so much!

DEANNE LOVE!!!! you are amazing! after two years of hooping I had almost resigned myself to the fact that I would never be able to do this! but the last few weeks I have been practicing this with you and I got it tonight!!! everything you said about posture and the spiral staircase metaphor... it clicked!!! thanks so much for finally being the one who explained this to me properly and inspired me to keep trying

Thank you so much! At first I was having difficulty getting the hoop to move at all, but after some practice controlling it on my thighs, I was suddenly able to do it! Once I felt it, I was able to repeat it. I think when you describe it as 'unlocking' it's very accurate. Once you get it, it's just there. Obviously some practice is necessary, but your tutorial was so helpful!

Currently working on letting it drop to my thighs and coming back up. I can get it from just below my butt back up to my waist, but any lower and I cannot get it back up. Going to keep practicing!

Hello deanne~~ Well, I started hula hooping a year ago, just regular waist hooping. In my junior year at an art school I saw this girl hoop dancing to dubstep and I was just baffled. I was like, "WOAH', then "HOW", then "I GOT TO LEARN THAT". I looked it up and found you. Your videos have seriously helped me out and I've only been attempting for three days now. It might have been a little impulsive but I just bought my first well-made hula hoop and am waiting for it now! I was just really happy because within these three days I've learned basics from lasso to weave and then to circus start and elevator moves. Right now my goal is to get the shoulder hooping and knee hoop raising. I get really frustrated like all beginner hoopers do, but your appearance in videos has made me feel like I can do it even when I feel like I can't. Have been watching your videos religiously. Thank you x a million, and hopefully I can get this down and really hoop dance (:

Hi Deanna, I am a new hooper (started in Jan of 2014) and watched this video several times. Finally a breakthrough! I couldn't figure out your "wiggle wiggle wiggle" back up. Well, while trying to control the hoop going down, I almost lost it but then shut my eyes tight, fisted my hands and tried to "wiggle" it back up, That consisted of alot of body movement I didn't know i possesed ( :-) ) Go figure IT WORKED! I have no idea how but now near every time i get the hoop down i can move it by mentally hearing and chanting with you "wiggle wiggle wiggle" and shaking my hips like they are going to dislocate but it comes back up!!! Huge Thank You and I had to show my husband just as proof i could do it. Video may come one day :D Thanks

I am not sure why but I can't figure out what my legs/hips are supposed to be doing to get it up. I keep watching the video and you explain it clearly. I just can't get my body to cooperate. I love all the videos by the way! I am learning so much!

Do you use any sort of grip on your hoop? I can only achieve this when my thighs are bare, and even then it's almost impossible when I'm with my smaller, lighter hoop. I probably lack the necessary control still but I was curious about whether or not there's grip on your hoop....thanks!

You are awesome and such a good teacher! What kind of hula hoop do you use? Where do you buy it? I use one from Wal-Mart that is weighted with water. Is that an ok one too? Thanks!

+Jessica Hildreth Personally, I would suggest buying one online (I got mine from etsy) that isn't weighted with water! The water makes the weight so uneven and it makes tricks like 10x harder! Just my 2 cents, hope this was helpful :)

I finally unlocked leg hooping, going down to the knees is getting way smoother, but going up it gets stuck on my butt. I feel like I am getting enough momentum going but then my butt blocks the hoop, how do you get the hoop over the bubble butt? I feel like my posture is good, abs engaged and I'm elongated and my glutes are also engaged... It still gets stuck.

Sooo I've been trying to get my hoop up from my knees to waste , I've done it a few times but it looks sloppy and I don't even know how I did it. I've recorded my self and re watched the successful attempts in slow motion but I cant figure it out. So far the easiest thing for me is to pump one of my legs and turn in circles until I can get it around my thighs but as soon as I start wiggling my butt and hips and moving my waist to get it up further, it starts to drop back down to my knees and I end up gasping for air. How do I get this thing past my butt and onto my waist ?!?! Anyone ??

I'm having trouble letting my hoop slide down. I'm trying to do it without losing momentum and changing my posture drastically but im having trouble :(
