I find watching your videos fascinating looking at the differences between uk and us imaging. At our site for patella femoral joints we do a skyline patella view but have the patient sit on the edge of the table and bend their knee back, put the detector on a chair under the knee and shoot down towards the floor so as to limit radiation going towards the patients face. Obviously this is very dependant on the patients ability to bend their knee but i do love a good skyline x-ray!

Thank you! Many site in the US position similar to the way you describe. I know some places even have a special IR/cassette holder to position that way. I try to teach my students based on the hospital protocols where they will be placed. I also do them seated with the knee flexed and the IR sitting on a stool below the knee, it’s much easier for wheelchair patients!

Thank you so much, your videos are very helpful. Please make videos on the exposure factors for each type of x-ray. Thanks

hi, i'm still a radiography student and sometimes i have to bend the knee more than 30 degrees because their toes get in the way. But I usually cant get perfect joint space... so will it work if i angle down a bit? I even tried using straight tube and i could just barely get some joint space. THANKS!

Hiiii. Do you have any tips for standing lateral knees. ?? I feel for condyles, patella. Make sure foot and ankle are straight Angle. But it is still a hit or miss. Help!!!

It sounds like you are doing everything right! The only other thing I would suggest is checking the hips for rotation and making sure when they step back with the opposite foot that it doesn’t rotate their hips. Also bending the knee about 40 degrees helps. I agree they can still be hit or miss

Lateral knee's are definitely a hit or miss. Body habitus can have an impact on this.

Hello, will you please describe how to do 30 60 90 degree patella tangential views? One of our orthopedic surgeons orders this at times.

I sounds like they're just asking for tangential views with 30, 60, and 90 degree flexion. Just flex the knees at those angles.
