I had an issue when I tried to cock the bow for the first time with the safety on. The string set in the trap box, held just enough to build up enough tension to rip the string out of my hands when it let go. No significant damage was done, and once I got it sighted in, I wrecked a couple bolts by sending one straight down the shaft of the first. I'm holding ~2" groups at around 50 yards, and I'm not an expert by any means. Best part is that they supply all the replacements parts you may ever need

I just received this package from amazon . same price .. searched for some vids on the crossbow because I bought it not knowing anything about cross bows . so I found your channel and I'm glad I did love the channel and info . yes the crossbow package is still a great deal my friend has a $1,200 ten point and he tried this one out and was impressed with it and blown away at the price as well.

I just got a crossbow the past year or so from my sister as a gift. The barnett DRT 385 came with the crank as well pretty similar. Haven't hunted with it yet but going to this year for the price they are pretty solid crossbows. I forget the name of the piece that holds the hooks for the crank but mine broke my own fault. Got ahold of barnett and they shipped me out a replacement free of charge.

I had a horton x-bow for about 10 years, they recommended wax for the strings, and the rail. I replaced the horton with a wicked ridge (made by ten point, and also bought the rights to horton, which they also make) Wicked Ridge says wax the strings well, but NOT the part that rides the rail, they recommend a silacone oil applied lightly. I never had an issue with waxing the rail, but some say it can clog up the area where the trigger assembly grabs the string, OK yes if you foolishly lay the wax on real thick on the rail everytime you apply it, I can see it may cause an issue, but all you need is to apply a little on both sides of the rail, and smear it all over the rail in a thin coat, then there shouldn't be any issues.

Still shooting good. I upgraded the scope - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKTMgnWCf9t5hsk I have decocked with it, but it's not ideal. You have to engage the cocked string and then slightly loosen it and then it will fire with a slight forward movement of the string. It needs the arrow loaded to satisfy the anti dry fire. So the arrow does jump forward slightly. I just use a decocking arrow-shoot it into the ground.

It can really depend on your arrows (length, weight) and your broadheads. Best bet is to practice at all the different points on the scope to know for sure.

I am considering getting a crossbow and I don’t like the price tag on a lot of them. I have a friend that has the lethal 405 and he likes it I see that you did A couple of reviews on that one and this Barnett. After using both of them do you have a preference on one over the other?.

Well, I've only shot a dozen or so bolt through the XP 380, but I really like it. No issues with the 405 either. The 405 is heavier, but that's not always a big factor depending on how you hunt. I paid $200 for the 405 and $350 for the XP 380, so maybe that matters. I would have no issues deer hunting with either one. But if I had to choose, I like the XP 380 better right now.

@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors That’s good to know. The price point on the two of them is no big deal to me I just don’t wanna pay $1500 for one I have a friend that has a 405 and he likes it also. But the difference between 380 ft./s and 405 ft./s is a moot point it’s not that big a difference. But like you said Barnett has been around forever and they have a good reputation. I check the price on one here and they’re $50 more 399 but I like the idea it comes with the crank In the package. I’ve got strong upper body strength but I messed up one of my wrist years ago so the crank would probably be needed. Thanks for the info. And God bless

Hello, may I ask if the strings of modern crossbows may have safety issues due to aging? Do I need to consider the issue of aging, or do I just need to pay attention to its cracks and fuzzing? If it is well maintained, used less, and stored properly, is it possible to store it for ten years?

Huh...y for your response I thought they all did. It is just a small circle cap that covers the hole on the opposite side of the crank handle . So if your handle is on the right or left on the opposite side is where it goes I guess for protection of the internals.

I’m planing to buy my first crossbow and I was looking at that same barnet xp380. I was checking the regulations in Washington state and there’s mainly two things that I don’t clearly understand, the “grains” and the “draw weight” My question would be, how do you find out about those things? I know it sounds like a stupid question but I’m new in this things. In fact, this the part of regulations that confuse me: “CROSSBOWS: It is illegal to hunt big game with a crossbow outside of modern firearm season. It is unlawful to hunt big game with a crossbow with a draw weight less than 125 pounds and a trigger safety that doesn't work properly. It is illegal to hunt big game with any arrow or bolt weighing less than 350 grains. It is illegal to hunt big game with any arrow or bolt that does not have a sharp broadhead and the broadhead blade or blades are less than seven-eighths inch wide.” Can you help me out David, or anybody?

OK this is what it sounds like to me, they want you to use a powerful crossbow, they want you to use a heavier arrow and a wide broadhead. The draw weight of the XP 380 is 185 lbs. So you're good there. Make sure you use a heavier bolt (over 350 grains). I think this would include your broadhead too, but don't quote me on that. Then your broadhead must have a cutting diameter of over 7/8 of an inch. So get a broadhead with a cutting diameter of 1 inch or more and you should be good. Again, don't go by me, but that's how I read it. Your DNR should have a website where you can ask questions. Or maybe a local outdoor store. That would be the best way to find out for sure.

Yes! I had to get a new serving last yr(I bought it in '22, after about 100 shots, the middle serving was GONE!). So, I took it to Cabellas, where I bought it, and they 'secured it- New serving' for about $20. It should not have worn out so fast! But, I love my Barnetts. 4th 1 since '14. My buddyloved my 1st 1, so I sold it to him. My son uses my 2nd 1....

I haven't had any problems with this crossbow at all. It is a good crossbow for the price. But I do have to say, if it's in your budget to spend a little more, I recently got a Punisher 420 from SA Sports. I should have a video of it up soon. The Punisher really has a lot of high end features and it's not a whole lot more money than the budget crossbows. Just an option.

It's tricky and I don't even know if the manufacturer recommends this. But think about how it goes to safety when you cock it. That's the problem you're having. You have to let up just a little to get the safety to be able to move. Now when you pull the trigger you may have some energy released when the string moves that little bit.
