Lady Hawk has been my go to with respectful, descriptive and objective videos. After last seasons ups and downs with live cams, the first one I looked at was Andria’s seizure and fall. I was heartbroken. These videos help us to connect with wildlife and understand eagles/falcons/owls/bears etc in such a compassionate way. I hope that the impact of live cams is changing the way humans understand wildlife and the natural world.

Hello Iggy it has been a heartbreaking past few days - even for those that did not watch this nest. What we are watching now is the resiliency of Alex to pick up the pieces of his shattered life without Andria and with two eggs that may not hatch. His determination to continue to incubate them is dictated by his instinct and hormones but also by his resolve to carry on without Andria. We don't know what the future holds but each day we see how raptors survive in the wild and carry one in the face of adversity. Humans can learn a lot by observing them through this process. We tend to stay stuck in grief and sadness too long...missing out on living life to the fullest. Alex will do all he can to try and hatch the eggs...and if they do not, he will move on and find a new mate. It does bring us hope in the midst of that sadness of losing Andria. Hi Zayne it is really amazing when you think of how little time as really passed from when he and Andria were happily incubating their eggs and then her illness and passing so suddenly and then new female coming in so boldly to the nest so many times. It must be very unsettling for him - you are right - his concern is for the eggs and he will do whatever he can to protect them and try and hatch them. This lady does seem to want this nest and Alex!! Maybe in time he will end up with her like M15 did with F23. Time will tell. Take care and have a great day!! ♥

@@zayne9188 I am sorry for your hurt in watching Andria become ill and pass away like she did. For those watching the nest and eagles every day it is a heartbreaking loss to deal with. I am still not over losing Harriet and probably never will be. That was the first eagle nest I started to watch from the beginning back in 2012 and I have followed Harriet and Ozzie and Harriet and M15 every day since. You do get attached -how can you not? Hugs to you and I hope that Alex will find that happiness once again ♥

Even though I really don’t want to be emotionally involved in another Eagle nest 😂 I am enthralled with these dynamics! Alex seems to be such a sweet Dad, doing what all parents would do. Grieving, confused, and protecting his eggs. The female seems to have pure female instincts. Like she doesn’t want to hurt the family, yet somehow knows the eggs are not viable. In her own way she wants to help maybe. Like Jackie last year knew her eggs were not viable, but Shadow would not accept and it took him a while. I truly hope for happiness and new beginnings for Alex ❤🦅 much like the new beginning given to M15 and sweet F23.

Alex clearly isn’t afraid to leave her on the nest alone with his eggs. Although he wasn’t far, the female could have taken those eggs and damaged them, yet she didn’t. Interesting. The dynamics here are unusual but time is the only thing that will reveal what is to be … one day at a time. Praying for Alex to be strong 🦅💙

It is very interesting indeed to see the dynamics with Alex and the female now. I know he has to take breaks and hunt to eat to keep strong, but to so easily leave the eggs with her did seem to imply he felt she was not a threat to them. I don't know how this will all play out but I do want Alex to find happiness once again.♥ Take care

I’m thinking probably she wants Alex to leave the eggs because it well be hard for a father to raise two chicks without mom, or she wants to have her own eggs in the same nest. But interestingly she did not eat the eggs but instead she looks like trying to protect the eggs from predators like hawk, this female is definitely an experience mom previously. This nest brings us all sad 😢 and broken heart ❤️ like Alex and hopefully no more eagle die from poison prey anymore… that’s enough!!!

Well, clearly she has plans for that nest and Alex, and it doesn't include two eggs that aren't hers. Interesting to see when Alex flew up at her, she immediately went submissive, as though they would mate. My heart stopped when she stood right on the eggs. Prayers!

Hello bellavita it sure is fascinating to watch this process develop. I believe the female is interested in the nest and a new mate. The eggs are something of no consequence to her - -that is why she covered them up and left them. My opinion and understanding of the embryonic process is that the eggs were left un-incubated for too long and they were not rolled which stopped the development of the embryo from growing. If I am correct - we may see a couple different scenarios - the eggs don't hatch and are left on the nest and abandoned by Alex after a period of time or they get buried in nesting and become part of the nest. Or the eggs might be predated when Alex is off the nest and destroyed/eaten. I would caution everyone watching if that does happen - the embryos are partially feathered and developed at this stage and it would be difficult to watch that take place. The eggs could get broken and damaged and the eagles may eat the contents of the eggs. Alex is doing what he must do - and that is to continue to incubate the eggs and protect the nest. The female has her own agenda and needs. She is not maternal and not trying to help him or want to incubate the eggs, but thankfully she has not caused any harm and maybe that will continue. The reason she is not maternal is she does not have the hormones from the egg laying process that dictate her to incubate eggs. And it is rare for another eagle to incubate the eggs that are not their own. We saw Gabby as a young female try to help Romeo out at the NEFL nest and incubate his eggs but she was young and maybe was experimenting with that process after seeing him on them. I think people know of that happening with Gabby and now think this female might do the same thing. It is interesting to watch what takes place in the wild!!

Yes I agree ♥ I am still sad over Andria and yet want Alex to be able to move on as best he can. It is a process - it takes time. I have seen eagles incubate eggs that are not viable for 4-6 weeks after normal hatching time. There is a lot of unknowns at this point - so we watch and observe! Take care De!

This is a tragedy beyond measure. I’m so incredibly sad for Alex. He has no idea where his mate went and misses her. He has no idea the eggs are not viable. So bless his heart he incubates them. Then the stranger female shows up. I think she may know the eggs are not viable or she too has lost a mate and is looking for a new one. Alex I believe was relieved she came to the point he trusted her. He needed to eat. But now we’re back to square one. Tragedy of epic proportion. Will Alex finally figure out the truth? I hope so. Oh my... we're there already? Nuthin' like this female visitor intruding making herself at home. Poor Alex has his work cut out for him. I imagine he's getting a bit tiresome. She certainly didn't waste any time checking the eggs and cleaning house. At TS 10:32, it appears as if she stepped on the egg on her left. What concerns me is where she's digging, it's the area of where Andria either regurgitated or cast her pellet. And that's alarming since we don't know yet the true facts of what caused Andria's illness! Time will tell how these two show their interactions revealed to us. Reminds me of Spring 2022 @ Big Bear Valley when Jackie kept burying Spirit's nestmate and Shadow kept uncovering it. Princess Spirit's keen observation of her Papa's actions taught her to uncover her 'Eggbert' as well. Jackie finally gave up!😆 Thanx Lady Hawk for sharing this past difficult ½week with us!

If there are eggs or eaglets on the nest, the parent(s) will not have the proper hormonal flow to want to find a new mate and reproduce. *Doing the math* .... She knows what she's doing! Don't be surprised if they get broken and consumed. Eagles take time to get to know each other and bond, so sayeth the experts. But, in the Dade County nest, Ron lost his mate at the same time Gabby lost Samson. Ron's new sweetheart, Rose, just laid her second clutch. ❤ M15's new sweetheart already laid her first. ❤ Gabby ..... still waiting! 😢 Do females with a lost mate take longer to accept a new one? @@tinavo1623 Yes! I am quite familiar with that nest. 😵‍💫 But, bear in mind, Gabby had many suitors last season. She mated with V2 and would have with others, but, some, like Mister V, were too inexperienced and some like V2, just left after mating. Much like A1 did, after they mated, this season. 🤔 The question was mostly tongue in cheek, for my friends here who have been following along, and get my crazy humor! 🤣 Miss Gabrielle is a Diva! It appears that the female is interested in the nest. Since she did not lay the eggs, however, she knows they're not hers and her hormones are not telling her to incubate. I'd guess that covering the eggs is part of rearranging the nest to her liking. Alex, on the other hand, is in incubation mode, so that's what he'll continue to do for now. 💔

I don't know why this nest-cam popped up my feed, the nest I usually watch is Hays in Pittsburgh (interesting dynamic going on there, too -- 20+ successful hatchings and fledges but now Dad is just GONE and has been replaced by 'V' (Visitor) who is quite the character and Mom seems OK with him and his antics) but I'm sad to see Andria in this nest so sick and then to suffer a seizure, fall, and die. And a new female within a day? I have no idea if this is within the norm, or what? Anyone with insight, I'd appreciate it, thanks!

He may be calling for her. I do not believe that he understands she is gone. Eagles do not have the comprehensive reasoning abilities of humans. All he knows is Andria is not here and he does not know why. I think when an eagle loses its mate, they are in shock and are stressed and do cry out for them and look for them and wait for them to return. It is only after a period of time that they just move on and keep doing what they need to do to survive. Right now Alex is doing what he must do - incubate the eggs because his instincts and hormones are telling him to do that until they hatch. He is guarding his nest and defending his territory. He is not interested in forming a new relationship with this female. I think when he does leave the eggs he is looking for Andria in all their usual places they would hang out in in the hope of finding her. 💔💔
