Knicks Organ Compilation

Raymond Castoldi used to play the organ very frequently and had many beautiful tunes that made Knicks game loud and vibrant. Sadly, his keyboard broke which made him use a different organ which sounds very different from what most Knicks fans are used to. This video was made to remember all the beautiful organs, electric guitar sounds, drum beats that used to echo throughout the Madison Square Garden.

Back in the 90s Bulls/Knicks games with the 0:50 De Fense tone, that was ALWAYS played in the final 3 min with the game on the line. And of course you know who always put the dagger in the Knicks' heart MOST of the time when that tone played! They shouldn't have played it in those Bulls games cuz that just fed them the victory. 🫠

It's an amazing experience. The crowd, the stadium seems like a theater in it's setup, and the sound is of high quality. You will never be bored at the game. A must do.

Yup, and the outside of The Garden looks pretty cool. Great architecture considering it was built in 1965, and completed in 1968 when it opened as the 4th and current MSG. Also the inside with the iconic ceiling along with the 1 billion dollar restoration a few years back, make it a very exciting experience to witness a sporting event there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. That place was loud and jumping when the Knicks won their 2 NBA Championships back in 70 & 73. Even the organ sounded better back then when Eddie Layton was playing it

The reason why the sound is different now is because the old one just wore down. i actually tweeted at him about it, and he responded telling me that. don’t know why but he seems to not play the organ NEARLY as much as he used to. it’s not even close to every play now. very sad to see

Those wondering why the sound changed: Castoldi was using more analog and genuine sounds, whereas nowadays, the sounds are more digital and computerized. Consequently, the sound is less genuine and less impactful sounding to the crows.

I miss the old sound. Although I much prefer an actual organ over a programmed keyboard, here it doesn't work. The current one sounds too deep and rich, whereas the old one had a bright and airy sound that fit the vibe of Knicks basketball perfectly. The current sound is also missing that attack profile on the chords that made the old one much more impactful.
