I'm an almost 86 year old woman who walks with a cane after breaking my hip. My advantage is I practiced Krav Maga for 4 years in my late 60s early 70s. I live in a dangerous part of the world where sadly knife attacks are not uncommon, and terrorists target the feeble. Thanks for showing me how still not to be a helpless old biddy. It may not help in the event, but it would give me a sporting chance.

I used to work in some pretty bad neighborhoods in Brooklyn NYC. The best advice I have heard is this: Carry a bunch of $1 bills no more than 10. If you are attacked, you should run but if you cannot throw the $1 bills on the ground and then run. They want your money, not you, as they scramble to pick up the money you can make your escape. Similar strikes in Escrima which I studied with Professor Visitacion. Thank you for the video . New friend of your channel. Blessings to all

Hi, I live in the UK and am 71 years of age. I have an arthritic let hip so I use a walking cane when going for walks. I made my own cane from ash so that it would be the correct height for me and the handle would be comfortable as I have a slight disability in my right hand. Watching your videos has assured me that my cane is very suitable for self defense. It weighs about one pound but is very strong. i have practiced the 5 basic moves and I found them reassuring as the cane feels capable of inflicting disabling injuries very quickly and giving me time to escape. So many thanks for these videos.

Keith, I luv these additions and are I’m sure that others do also. We all have our own unique reasons why and how we defend ourselves and our families. For me, my retreat would be slower than a fast walk and a little faster than crawling. Therefore, my life depends on me holding my ground, probably that last advisable technique. I have no choice and I’m sure that many have the same mobility issues. Your videos have put the odds strongly in our favor. Thank you Keith, I never let my issues prevent me from doing what I want to do. Keep ‘em coming and I do want to add to my collection of four canes from you. Like you, they are amazing!!

I’m a geezer and fit a victim profile visually by how I walk. I think I’m not in a position to take anymore injuries. I bought a training cane from Cane Masters, a 1” hickory. It is a great tool and I use it to push, pull and generally move stuff around the shop and it is indestructible. I figured that when I use it like that , I get used to how it increases leverage in anything I do. I have a heavy bag in the shop that sometimes I do a surprise attack on and have accidentally hit myself on occasion, making me appreciate its lethality. I sure hope I never have to use it to stop someone from attacking but am confident it is the right tool for that when I practice your techniques. Thanks!

The only time I have been attacked by a big guy wanting to do me serious harm, the guy came charging at me and I poked him hard in the solar plexus with the point of my umbrella ( I'm a great believer in the point beats the blade). He lost interest in attacking me and I went shopping for a new umbrella. Although I did not realise it at the time, his forward momentum added to the powder of the lunge and I don't believe swiping from the side would have been effective in this case.

I think it's one thing, one very important thing, that he forgets to mention. DO NOT HESITATE! The cane is only good at a distance. If you hesitate and the attacker gets really close to you, the stick want do much good. It's like walking behind a horse. Either you keep a good distance or you stay really close. Cause if the horse decides to kick, big distance means out of reach, really close means a push instead of a kick.

How to deal with a leveraging arm?
@CaneMasters-WalkingCanes
@CaneMasters-WalkingCanes 10 ай бұрын
When facing an opponent's leveraging arm, it's crucial to maintain control and balance. Here are a few techniques you can utilize with our Cane Masters product: 1. **Redirecting the leverage**: Use the cane to redirect the force of the opponent's leveraging arm away from you, utilizing the leverage against them by manipulating the angle and direction of their force. 2. **Counter leverage**: Apply counter leverage with your own body or by using the cane to create opposing force, neutralizing the leverage advantage of your opponent. 3. **Joint locks and manipulation**: Utilize joint locks and manipulation techniques with the cane to immobilize or control the leveraging arm, limiting its effectiveness. 4. **Strikes and pressure points**: Target vulnerable areas on the leveraging arm with precise strikes or pressure point techniques, disrupting their control and weakening their grip. 5. **Footwork and positioning**: Maintain proper footwork and positioning to mitigate the impact of the leveraging arm, allowing you to maneuver effectively and regain control of the situation. By combining these strategies with the unique capabilities of our Cane Masters product, you can effectively deal with a leveraging arm and maintain control in various self-defense scenarios.

Keith, I think you may have said something you didn't mean to say. You said the first thing to do in a knife attack is to flee. Yes, so true. But how fast can a senior with limited mobility flee, .. like a puppy with broken legs? I am one of those. I'm gonna outrun a drugged up 20 year old? Not a chance. I think the focus should be different .. screen for help, and go into attack mode if you can, and if you cannot, then defensive mode .. but don't just stand there and do nothing.

@toquinlan

Nope. Been handling a cane for about three years, now. My wrist is strong enough to use my cane with speed and accuracy. More than enough to break bones upon contact. A two-handed grip would hinder the swivel action of my wrist and *reduce* the cane's effectiveness. Also, there's not many switch-hitters in MLB. It would be difficult for normal folks to maintain strike force and accuracy using a two handed grip.

If you are already old and you can't run very well never turn your back and run away. Throw the money first maybe and then try to leave while they're picking money off the ground. The important thing is to hit that guy as soon as any part of him is close enough. If you hit someone anywhere from the elbow down with a cane even one time it may break his bone and disable his grip strength in his knife hand. If you were going to train five strikes like that then your best bet would be three strike burst. How fast can you hit somebody with that came three times that's the magic number that's the magic question. Slowly work on your form and get your strength and practice those 5 strikes in form mode then go to application mode and strike three times fast.

I think the reach advantage of a cane overcomes any advantage knife skill can bring to bear. The idea is that you keep the attacker moving backwards, thus negating his ability to come in close to utilize his skill. The only disadvantage I see, is the ability of the caner to press the attack over time.

Most people don't even realise that a cane can easily disable or kill someone if used effectively and of course, the cane has to be of good quality and well-made. In Moses's time, men particularly sheep headers would walk with a long staff with a hook on the end to hook sheep quickly by the neck but it was just as effective in hooking and beating bandits with it LOL As a veteran, I have used, stones, sticks, shovels and rifles to beat off attackers LMFAO, so if you don't have a cane look around for a good stick or anything solid.

It's completely understandable to have concerns about using a cane and the potential perceptions it might create. However, it's important to prioritize your safety and well-being. A cane can provide valuable support, stability, and help prevent falls. Many people use canes for various reasons, and it doesn't necessarily signal vulnerability. If you're hesitant, you could consider personalized or custom-made cane that not only serves a functional purpose but also expresses your personality. Ultimately, the most important thing is to prioritize your health and comfort. Don't let concerns about perception deter you from taking steps to ensure your safety and mobility. In reality you ideally either want a gun or a very, very strong relationship with your creator if you can't get away. If a guy is motivated and willing to eat a couple of whacks with a stick, you're in a very bad situation.

Hi there! I agree, however, not everyone can carry a gun. With proper knowledge and skills in using canes for self defense, it can help a lot. You can email us at info@canemasters.com if you need anything.

Here's what bothers me about this. You are a mobile older man. I am younger than you, but I genuinely need a cane to walk. I am in so much daily pain I don't even think I could swing a cane that hard. I would likely lose my balance and fall down. Then I would be cooked. Your wooden canes seem fantastic though.

I like that when you were using left hand you had left foot forward. if you were using right hand the right leg should be forward. most people are right handed. (for me personally my right arm is better in certain things while my left is better at others). if someone right handed would be attacking with a knife if they would attack the way they would attack unarmed person they would have their left foot forward like shown here. if they would be attacking like you would attack an armed person they would have their right foot forward. under those circumstances if you are using your left hand you should definitely have your lead foot outside their lead foot. if you are using your right hand and the attacker is using right hand also but have their left foot forward like your son had in this video. I'm not sure what would be the right position of the leg. on one side having your lead (In this case right) foot outside of his lead leg (in this case left) and circling towards your right and having bladed stance would allow you to be for the most part be safe from his knife hand. the problem is that although you have plenty of chance to attack his left side. it will be slightly harder for you to atack his right side where he carries the knife. however I would still choose to have my lead leg outside or level to him and you do not want to have your lead leg inside because that is where you are in most danger. if fighting with your left hand as shown here you should probably always be circling to your left (opposite to what you would be doing if you were using your right hand) because if he is right handed and in same position as your son was if you are far enough away you can keep him at bey and you might even hit his right arm and disarm him. although he will be holding it back so other targets might be preferable. but his best option to close the distance is to put his right foot forward and attack you with his right hand armed with a knife. and if he does that you want your lead leg to be outside of his lead leg (your left outside his right) and be circling to your left. that will keep you relatively safe from his knife and give you a good shot at him. I think in most circumstances you would wish to hit his right hand (the one that carries the knife) to disarm him and then go from there. (that last part is pretty obvious so I'm probably not telling you anything new but I thought that it might be worth mentioning)

Do not follow this advise. You are defending your life, not trying to win a baton twirling contest. ALWAYS, two hands on the cane. Left hand on crook facing in of the cane and the right about a 1/3 way up the shaft. Left hand against the chest. I don’t know who this guy is, but his technique is terrible and sounds made up. I suspect he’s selling training videos as well as canes. Right foot forward with 60% weight on the back left foot. Practice trusting and hitting a target to gain speed and learning proper distance and coming back to the defensive balanced position in a single motion. You are not Delta Force so perfect through practice what are the most effective moves. Your task is to take the bad guy out of the fight as quickly as possible. The skull is very thick and strong. It can be moved out of the way of a blow much faster than the body mass. You may even fracture an arm that attempts to blocks your blow but this will not take the attacker out and only hurt hours later when his adrenaline levels come back down. Thrust to the body, solar plexus, throat or face. Practice thrusting and retreating back to the neutral stance in one motion. Allow the attacker to initiate action and you respond from your balanced defensive position. The aggressor is always the one off balance and committed to the attack instead of the response. Don’t get into a dancing contest that takes you out of your balanced defensive stance. Your remaining calm and non-aggressive but in a defensible position may dissuade the attacker much better than screaming and you attacking him like a crazed chimpanzee. That only demonstrates the one thing you don’t want to demonstrate in that situation: FEAR. Your best chance of controlling the situation is to control yourself. If there’s a knife attack one simple TWO-HANDED swiping motion down across the wrist or hand (which is the weakest point of the arm full of nerves) will dislodge the knife. If you do move in, do it with short sliding steps that keeps your balance. Keeping your left hand back to block does nothing unless your arm is wrapped in a magazine or something. Not a bad idea but you may have left your NatGeo home. If you do block a knife blow with your left arm you will most likely bleed; and when you see that you will go into shock and it’s over. Trust me. Striking the attackers arm with a well coordinated TWO-HANDED grip is your best defense. A two-handed grip is not only more stable and controllable but it allows an average person to accelerate the cane much faster with short strokes. Long frantic engagements get more complicated and you need to avoid that at all costs because it will only lead to an unpredictable situation that you are not prepared for. This is probably your first experience in this but not your attacker’s first rodeo. KEEP IT SIMPLE! No ones wrist is strong enough to twirl a cane in a figure eight for very long. This is silly and a panic move that will disrupt your focus. Don’t waist energy by flailing with no object in mind. Your best chances are to stay as calm as possible. You’re goal is to damage the attackers ability to engage, not lead a marching band. You’re not there to scare your attacker off by appearing crazed but to do maximum DAMAGE with the least effort and expenditure of energy. In the last video I saw about the strength of canes, our, “cane master,” was taking a lot of time twirling the cane around before striking. This might look good in a Kung-Fu movie, but if you are determined to just strike the attacker on the top of the head (dump) then raise the cane over your head right away like real Samurais do. But you’re not a real Samurai. I’m not a troll but dislike BS to sell products especially when it could be dangerous. Sounds like he’s also selling training videos...just a guess. Before you waist you money on these, find out what his background is and by whom he’s accredited as a, “CANE MASTER.” (He probably sells CANE MASTER doboks or gis as well.) Having watched two of these KZbin adds so far (and that’s what they are) being into martial arts myself and seeing him in action, sounds like a lot of made up bullshit to me. Do buy one of his canes, however. A strong hardwood cane is the only good advise I’ve heard so far from this source. I have one myself and it’s one of those, “medical,” types he tries to talk you out of, but then again, I’m not into fancy twirling but performing fast decisive action. Remember , hopefully and most likely, 99.9% of your use of the cane will be AS A CANE, so get one for that function first and one that you just like the look of that is comfortable for supporting you weight, NOT FIGHTING OFF NIJAS.
