Knife Blade-Play and What to Expect

This video demonstrates blade-play in several styles of knives. Depending on the style knife, some blade-play is to be expected and is acceptable. When a lock fails or closes with no force, you may want to rethink the use of that knife. Always use your head when it comes to lock-up and excessive blade-play. Your fingers will thank you for it. things like blade play never bothered people before, small amounts of side to side up down blade play, spot rust, people will get on forums and cry about blade play on a mechanical knife riding on a pivot, its the nature of the folding knife, you got a bunch of moving parts and there needs to be some level of separation from their neighboring parts or the knife is too tight and wont move. Now if the play is agregious, and appears unsafe, sure. But otherwise

I have a benchmade 940 osborne and when I got It brand new about a day or two ago the blade was very tight and I could barely open the knife with the thumb stud nor could I flick the knife open or closed using the access lock so what I did was I loosened the pivot screew on the side and now I can flick It open and closed using the access lock however since I've loosened that pivot screw the blade wiggles back and forth just a tiny bit my question Is It bad to have a little blade play wiggle from side to side or should I tighten the pivot screw to remove all blade play

The only concern I have would be the validity of the lock-up now that the pivot screw is a little looser. Given time, the average blade will usually develop a little bit of play over time. I recommend you verify the blade is safely locked-up and keep an eye on that aspect of the knife. As long as it is completely safe enjoy the flick-a-bility.

I started to get into Italian switch blades . I just got 2 and they have blade play , annoying kind of blade play. There not cheap there both Frank B stiletto . but I think that's what your gonna get with stiletto. Even though one cost 180 bucks . collectables My Protech's have little play, my half breed is solid. thats a great knife. I wont be getting any more of those stiletto's that blade play bugs me. Ido wont the Protech large Don, thats entire different story.

I know this comment has 3 years but let me tell you this, I also get into italian switch blades and almost EVERY single one of them has blade play. 😅 I guess that's the way they are, it's not like these knives are meant to be survival blades to make some batoning or pry something. You love it or you hate it. Me, personally, love those italian blades like a crazy, dunno why.

@@DjSzpaku I take my OG post back, since than I have collect many more. Lots of AGA If you get a chance check out the AGA Diana, got a few of those now. I got over the blade play, like you said love them or hate them, I'm on the love them side. I have got a nice little collection.
