Just as the title says, this is a comparison between the two knives for people on the fence about whether to purchase the full size Griptilian or the Mini Griptilian. Both are great knives but I want to give you a closer look and offer some thoughts.

this is super helpful but the only thing I can say about the review is one and this was not mentioned I have both the mini and the full size I keep the full size in my survival pack but the Mini goes in my pocket it just fits better, Second thing I have to say is forget about being socially acceptable use what you want and being socially acceptable is part of the problem with society today why do we have to conform to certain standards its not a huge bowie knife for criminy sakes

My biggest dilemma is what blade shape I want to go with for mine. I can't decide between a drop point or a sheepsfoot. I love the sheepsfoot look but I feel a drop point would be more useful.

@freddiemjames The axis lock isn't always the most practical for people living outside the states, and some people say they are too expensive (or too this or too that) but I love Benchmade. Thanks for watchin man. :)

size comparisons are so important, i know i wish i had more when i was trying to make up my mind, i love the mini, one of my all time favorite knives, but i got a black blade and want a satin finish and need to get a full size grip as well, just not sure which one to get first, congrats on the win btw!

Honestly I am a huge fan of the full size grip. It's not for everyone but it really works well for me and has stood the test of time. The tenacious is not a bad knife, definitely a cool blade for the money. My biggest issue with it is that it is very easy to cut yourself with it when closing the blade. For $30 you can't go wrong however.

I noticed that you recommended a mini Barrage over the mini Griptilian for edc and I'd have to disagree. The weight difference is significant. The mini B weighs over 4 oz and that kills it, for it's small size. Also, as to the Appalachian trail hiker, a folder is great as a handy or backup knife, but if you need a main blade, look at a fixed blade first for that type of use.

I EDC the full sized Griptillian (combo edge) on my belt and the Delica 4 (Emerson open) but I have been thinking about getting the mini grip so I have it always with me (even in gym clothes).

For self defense I'd definitely go with the full size Grip. If you have smaller hands and like a smaller knife and mainly want something to EDC the mini Barrage may be the better bet. Also if you need something more discrete (ie, you cant bust out a big knife) go for the mini.

I went with the full size and it is perfect. A little big for your pocket but it feels like a better all around knife. I like to use my knives but i get funny stares when I pull it out to cut something. Keep that in mind. One is more stealth than the other.

I have a normal sized griptillian. I feel like anything smaller would be sacrificing utility. Only reason to go smaller is to comply with local law. The plastic on the handles is very robust and the snapping sound of the opening is satisfying. 6 months on a jobsite and it shes still tight no wiggle even with me prying on it like an idiot.

Both are pretty nice, but I would suggest the Mini Grip - I like the blade shape a little better and it's just an all around excellent knife.

Probably a mini grip, Spyderco dragonfly, or something even smaller. My friend hiked the trail with a SAK and that was all he needed - really important to keep the weight down out there.

My guess is because the cost of materials is actually pretty low relative to the cost of manufacturing and labor. If you don't mind a larger knife I would suggest the larger one.

Love the design. Wished they had a medium sized Griptilian. The plastic handles suck and custom G10 handles are as much as the knife itself. Nice review.

Not really. Sometimes after extended use you may need to tighten the pivot - especially the full size.

I don't know why but for me if the mini and regular version are the sa me price I always get the bigger of the two, I can understand why the smaller knife is sometimes needed but I don't get why it's just as much for less material

Great comparison! I am considering a full size grip, endura 4 ffg, or all black tenacious (possibly the new foliage green). I already have a delica 4 ffg but i want something more! I have a saber ground gendura but it doesnt cut nearly as well as the ffg. Any tips?

@asilaydying1984 . I have a couple Axis lock style blades, the Cold Steel version as well. I don't like the lock much either. Better than liner locks maybe but not my pick. It just seems like it's more likely to fail. They never have though.

@asilaydying1984 I just dont like that way of disengaging a lock, same with the manix or the compression locks on spyderco I dont really like those wither, I prefer framelocks liner locks or button locks sometimes even back locks nothing against the axis lock though I just never enjoyed them I guess lol
