Knife making - Chevy c10 Slip joint pocket knife

This hand made slip join knife is an ode to my father favorite car. It’s a chevy c10 pickup truck. He is turning 60 years old, so I thought I make him something special. I found a guy in France that was willing to make the custom scales that matches the paint job on his car, and from that, I started drawing. It really pleases me to see you using files so much as they are so useful. In the right hands they can be more accurate than machine tools. I’m a gunsmith, so I use files a lot to make the parts for guns.

Hi nice knife. May I ask do you lightly countersink / chamfer the pin holes? If not it might hide the pin more on the finished bolster. At J.Rodgers in Sheffield we use a tapered drill to chamfer half way down the hole before riveting.

Hi! yes. the pinholes are 3mm, and I used a 3,5mm drill to counter sink. I found it hard to get a good result, so I have ordered some 3,2mm drills. I hope this makes the pins go totally flush with the bolsters.

This is video is represending the exact reason why i subscribet this channel. The knife came out awesome, not just because it is well made, but rather because its desing, i ve actually never saw any knife desings that are related or connected with famoust cars, the way you've drove the lines and shapes is perfect. Concragulations with nive vice btw But I do have a question: Im making slip-joints myself for 4 years now, and I always use brazing to fix the bolsters, why dint you? Best regards

Different types. Most file I use are cheep files, but the ones I use who are of quality is from Bacho Oberg and Ampro. About 20-25 dollars a file.
