less tiring , tidy grind. and that 89 score is razor sharp. Thank you sir.

If you pre-stack all the stones you are planning to progress through, you can switch which stone you are sharpening on without changing the stack height.

Clever idea. I wish i thought outside the box like that 👍

Thanks as always for video Jef. I have a Koningsberg crutch. I managed to persuade Alexander the man who used to make them to supply me with one just before he stopped making them. More interestingly he supplied me with an adjustable stone holder which is a complete game changer. You are only required to set your angle once on the clamp. You may then use any stone you like ( within reason!) of different thicknesses as the holder adjusts up or down to compensate. Yes and even a bench strop will fit if you want to strop at the exact angle. So. No fiddly readjustment each time you change stones. With my medium free hand skills using this system allows perfect, flat, symmetrical bevels. Good for other people’s knives. I think he tried to market both gadgets but it never worked out for him. Surprising as the stone holder is such a neat solution!

Yea i saw photos of that stone sister but never got my hands on one. They would be fantastic to have. If ya have the skills though, the whole things is superfluous. Even so, I still use mine 😁

@@chargv hi Carlos, I would be happy to share photos and description of this unique stone holder. Unfortunately I don’t know how to upload links to you tube, so not sure what to do?

Yea if ya already got the skill no need for the clamp unless you just want perfect angle

I think you can find nylon cap nuts at your local big-box hardware store. That would help with the evil screeching sounds of steel on glass.

The Crutch was pretty good a two part system setting the stone at the same height would be a good addition.

Yea the crutch was pretty dope 👌

Great video ! Im still learning how to freehand, I get great results on the flats, but the belly and tip doesnt get as sharp...this would be a good tool to learn the muscle memory
@Jef3 жыл бұрын
It can definitely help there 👍 give ‘em a check and grab one if you get the chance. I’ve heard from others who made their own versions, with varying success. It’s pretty simple really

How low can this go? 10 degrees per side? And how high can this go? 30 degrees per side?
@Jef3 ай бұрын
Depends on the knife, stone height, and prob other factors im not thinking of. As far as low, you can set it dead flat parrellel to the stones. Again, depending on height. Obtuse angles, pretty much the same. I dont think you can get a true 90° on it but you could prob get close
@muffemodАй бұрын
Would you recommend this over a guided system?
@JefАй бұрын
@@muffemod i would because it mimics freehand sharpening, more than most guided systems. Price is really fair as well. However, ALL devices have learning curves. Some are more difficult to master, than others. This one, isn’t too terrible. The biggest problem, is switching between different sized stones. You will need to make adjustments, to the arms, to account for this. Otherwise, each stone, will sharpen, at different angles. Sharpie marker, comes in super handy, for this process.

I do remember the crutch. If I recall you were able to use the goofy DMT jig in this fashion if you wanted to. Was that the original chosera or the new version?
@Jef3 жыл бұрын
New version? This thing is about 5-6 years old
@glytch53 жыл бұрын
@@Jef Yeah remember when they stopped called them chosera? It was quite a while back.
@Jef3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes. They still make the chosera with bases. The baseless version, like what i use here is the Naniwa Pro.

Or a neodymium magnet for extra strength

In this case, not sure a magnet would have much benefit. However, I’d be willing to try it if they changed it 🤷♂️

@Jef3 жыл бұрын
Yea, there is fiddling, for sure, but any guided system, has that detriment.
