I am a German native speaker and for the past two weeks a hideous, horrible AI babble has suddenly replaced the melodius voice of DCA. In a panic I rush to the gear icon to set the language back to English. This show thrives on the subtile, funny and nuanced language that is completely lost in the generated German translation. I could not imagine anyone enjoying this translation. It would be no loss to get rid of it if you can. And a knife FAQ question: which "folding kitchen knife" would yor recommend for traveling? Thanks for the great show!
@andreasmartini1280Ай бұрын
Actually this automatic translations for German ears horrible bad. Especially where dca has a good feeling in how to speak English. He is quite used to contact with international persons. (Something which typical tourist Americans lack. I switched back to the original voice. The automatic translations lacks all the special sound options when for example dca mentioned the size of his fingers.

Try the larger salt series from Spyderco for a folding kitchen knife. The pacific salt has a 3.75” blade of LC200N for rustproof goodness.

One detail he didn't mention on the Nextool Flagship tools is that the shears are joined by a torque head screw which means you can tighten them up, not cheaply riveted on. I initially ordered the mini, and as soon as I saw that I immediately ordered the larger version to keep in my car.

Question: Why is kirinite not used on more modern production knives? You’ve talked about how it is similar in performance to micarta when wet, but there’s not even an option for kirinite handle materials in your site’s filter tool. Is it too brittle to work with? Too flexible? Would love to know

Hey DCA and Thomas, With the recent news of Crucible filing bankruptcy and leaving New York, what have you guys heard if anything about the future of thier steels. Any chance other makers could pick up thier formulas and processes. Or any word if they may relocate and continue operations elsewhere? Would love your thoughts on this as a maker yourself.
@EdcreviewerАй бұрын
Crucible isn't going anywhere someone will buy them out and restructure the company. Their steels are in way to high of demand for a buy out not to happen. Hell Eric should buy it since spyderco is king of the CPM steels anyhow they might as well own crucible.

@davidgarrett5671Ай бұрын
@@ryanholloway5576You are correct, they went bankrupt in 2009 and were bailed out by a venture capital firm. They are again looking for someone to buy them and bail them out but they may need to declare bankruptcy before they do so in order to invalidate certain contracts they have including not selling Magnacut to Asian knife manufacturers. As this story plays out it will be interesting to see how they got themselves in this position. This is not going to only impact the knife market they make a lot of specially items for aircraft manufacturing, trucks, etc.

Perhaps the incoming administration will use tariffs against foreign steel production to improve Crucible's fortunes

Hey DCA, I have a funny feeling I'm overthinking this but I'm gonna go ahead and ask it anyway. I have seen a few videos and posts discussing the strength of knife locks. I am one for long-term investments. So as important as lock strength is, isn't lock durability also important? What I'm afraid of is spending money on a knife to use every day and the lock components give out overtime. I know the quick and easy answer is to get a pocket fixed blade. I do have one but more often than not I am needing something more discreet such as for at work or when doing activities with my kids. Do you have any knowledge of what lock has the most long-term durability or is there a way to even test that?
@snowhuskАй бұрын
Great question, especially considering the modern prices. I second your request. I can certainly tell you what you don't want in that regard, as my two cents - backlocks. The nature of that lock's design is such that over time, as the faces of the lock bar and blade tang wear out, you would experience slight movement of the blade when cutting. Like every time you cut anything on a surface, the blade moves like 0.5-1mm further than how it usually locks open and you feel that click, and shifting of the lock bar arm in your hand. I hope it makes sense. It's basically an outdated design at this point and people just don't want to talk about this flaw of it or when they do they say it's not a big deal. If you like your tools to function as intended, it can become rather infuriating long term. Only exceptions to this are Taiwanese Spydercos (Chaparral and IIRC some other model too) and Cold Steel's Tri-Ad lock (technically not a backlock, but surprisingly some retailers group them under backlocks or "lockbacks" umbrella) - these fix this issue by having a dedicated stop pin to prevent the blade from "shifting"/wiggling like that in locked open position.

David, can you recommend a 3 inch give or take fixed blade with a clip would allow me to belt carry horizontally and loop either be behind the blade or at the end of the handle because I want a secure grip incase of self defense. Budget 55$. Great Work keep it up

DCA I bought your pocket tingle one I love it. Great knife feels great in the hand. You did an out of the ballpark job on it but…. I think you really restricted what people could do with the knife and how to carry it with that ridiculous pocket sheath. The idea was good but practicality that sheath sucks. See if you could talk to MKM and go with a kydex she with some carry options I think that’s the only way you could really unleash the pocket tango. That would be a great knife for scout carry and for on the hip and in the pocket with a clip instead of the magnet, the magnets are ridiculously stupid.
