I like Spyderco's over everything else for 2 unique reasons. I'm a housepainter so I often need a knife I can both open AND close with just one hand because the other hand is holding onto a ladder . And I can also use the thumb hole to pry open paint cans because of the way they stick out . It keeps me from being tempted to use the tip and possibly break it off.

Hi David (and Seth), My first question was answered brilliantly, so here I go again! Hope you can help me out with another one similar to my 1st question: I'm looking for a folding knife, with the following features: 1) Flipper (that becomes a "guard") 2) Axis or Similar Cross-Bar Lock (**MUST** be bank-vault, bomb-proof strong) 3) Thumb Hole, either oval or round, doesn't matter, but **MUST** have it... 4) About 3" or more Blade Length 5) Pointy, not Wharncliffe, but needs some belly. 6) Optional, but would be game-winning: Full Flat Grind, finger choil, assist or bearings in the pivot and Deep Carry Pocket Clip 7) See if you can recommend me a budget and a premium version each. Thanks so much!

I just got back from a camping trip to New Mexico. Stayed at Navajo Lake with some friends in a tent. I'm a professional cook by trade, so by unanimous decision I was responsible for the food prep on the trip. I brought my Sig K320 and Civivi Elementum. The Sig is a workhorse. I used it for a million things while I was there, but I have to be honest. Its extremely awkward for food prep. I actually ended up cutting myself the first night out there on the first tomato. I immediately went to the luggage and got out the Elementum. Felt much more natural, much like a paring knife. I would have a hard time telling anyone NOT to get the K320. Its probably one of the best EDC knives I've ever carried, but look elsewhere for a food prep option. If you see this, I hope this helps a little!

Serious question . So.. I purchased the zt 0450cf from a reputable online dealer. On arrival, found it to be a great looking knife, nice flipping action. But there was a distinct mechanical ping sound mid drop every time the blade closes freely. The “ping” is absent if you slow roll the blade shut.. Way too concerned,, trying to “break in” the action, ended up cutting myself. A moderate cut, back of the ring finger just below the fingernail. Extraordinary pain , swelling and redness in half the finger.. Been 3 weeks and still healing. Doctor said a *foreign contaminant*, not the cut itself, caused the unusual pain and following reaction. (Pretty serious) Missed a weeks work and pay. One handed worker for two weeks. Not blaming anyone but myself. But is this a known danger? Should we be sterilizing new blades? Any cleaning method or product you might recommend to those concerned with hand/finger preservation ? Thank you guys!

David you guys sold me a 2.5" Camillus LK6 stonewashed D2 G10 handle with a titanium coated deep belly flipper for $19.95. Is it junk cuz it holds an edge really well like D2 should and after I Loctite' the pivot it hasn't come loose at all, but it does take a T7 for the pivot? Either they're T7 or my cheap $10 Torx and Allen wrench and flat head/Phillips head Chinesium 1/4" driver Screw Bits Set isn't correct and T7 is actually T8. I have a CPM S30V Bear Ops that the T7 fits too, now I think about it. Only $20 for a D2 knife is awesome, now is it junk? It seems solid as heck with its frame lock (yes a freaking nice frame lock, stainless to boot) and finger choil, it would make a great little skinner for those mean ole badgers and coyotes we have around here. My only complaint is the pocket clip was screwed down loose and is too tight for jeans plus the screws stick out too much. Doggone! I've had $80 knives that had more issues than this $20 Camillus. I only bought it cuz 20 bucks and D2, but it is a great little knife. I bought my grandson a Camillus Blaze D2 flipper for $33 and he loves it. I guess I found my stocking stuffers for Christmas this year whether the like knives or not! They don't like it I'll give them your number Dave. Damn mosquitos in here! I better eat more garlic!

Mr. Anderson, Weird...my question didn't post, so I'll retry: I bought a Firebird: F753M1 recently, and was surprised by the quality for the price. I haven't seen you review one yet, and was wondering what your thoughts might be?

Hey DCA, long ago I had a Gerber bolt action knife that I really enjoyed flipping open and closed. Now I’m looking for a crossbar style lock, and had thought the Hogue Deka was going to be it. But looking through the Spyderco lineup, I see they have the Manix 2 caged ball bearing lock, and this knife doesn’t have the hideous look that many of their knives have. I’m even looking at the XL version with my larger than average hands. Can you weigh in on these for me? Thanks.

Still loving my paramilitary 2 with blackened blade and copper scales. 👍 #SpydercoPM2

Josh... Go with the Benchmade, the Spyderco knives feel like plastic junk from the flea market. The Benchmade will last way longer and is more comfortable to use.

@12:00 if you remove either or both of those two screws, just aft of the compression lock interface, you might notice threadlocker on their threads. To be clear on which screws I'm talking about, they hold the spacer that doubles as the blade stop for when the knife is, as my wonderful woman once delightfully described, "on," as well as for when you turn your PM2 "off." In my experience* I've noticed how tightening or loosening the screws holding the stop pin can help fine-tune the folding of the knife, especially if it's difficult to find the sweet spot when adjusting the pivot. Those screws can considerably affect both opening & closing feel, and can really help when there doesn't seem to be a plate between drop-shut and too much blade play. Sometimes the knife even runs best with one screw cranked down and the other one barely snug. I believe that's why this is the one other place, beside the pivot, that the Spyderco folks use threadlocker on the compression-lock knives. This actually also applies to the Manix 2. How hard the screws are squeezing the scales/liners against the pin (located in the same relative position on that knife as the aforementioned stop pin on comp-lock blades... it also has threadlocker) can be the difference between being able to finger-flick it open or having action like a friction folder. *I'm not what I would call an expert. This is all just stuff I've come up with, after disassembling and adjusting about 20 Compression Lock™ knives, of a total of about 50 folders (95% Spyderco, with a couple of CRKTs & a Bugout) and D/A OTFs from MT, BM, GT, and Heretic, plus the new Pentagon OTF from SOG (I'm actually working on a fix for the bottom-edge blade drag issue as of late). With that in mind, I might absolutely be mistaken about some of what I said above. If you believe I'm wrong about something, I would love to know... then we can both can be right about it. 😁 I hope this helps somebody!

Also, Snap-On Torx bits are totally solid/great warranty, if you can get your hands on 'em.

Hi! I saw that the new Spyderco Cru-wear/micarta PM2 is now coming soon and i wonder what does micarta actually feel like compared to G10 and how tough is Cru-wear? and are the parts interchangeable with other PM2 models? Thanks!

Hey DCA! I've been carrying a Benchmade Mini Loco 818 and I can't find replacement scales anywhere. Do you know where I can get some made or have suggestions for another comparable knife to help me scratch my itch?

HAPPIER THAN A PIG IN.....For the release of SIG K320 classic edition, considering the only issue I've ever heard anyone having with this knife or rather gripe not issue is the scales being polymer well the classic is going to have metal scales so do we possibly have a super Griptilian killer here since the Ritter Hogue is the Griptilian killer and the Deka is the bug-out Killer?

Besides magna cut, is there any new hot innovations in the world of folding knives (ie: lock mechanism, material, etc)? What is the new trend to look out for in the coming year for folding knives?

Dear David Andersen, Since the Steel Will Roamer you presented us 5 monthes ago isn't produced anymore, do you have a serious alternative? Same specs with a Kydex shealth if possible. Thanks in advance.
