I voted Hogue. I figured the concept of a side opening auto is a little silly even though I have one. The difference between pushing a button to spring it open vs a flipper tab isn't significant, but autos have more moving parts to break, get dirty and gummed up, plus you pay a premium for the button over the flipper tab. If I wanted to buy another auto I'd go OTF but they are all so pricey, so I'd want to baby it. It's hard to justify a $400 toy that cuts cardboard when my other knives do too.

I have the VG10 and k390 Endelas and they’re both beautiful. VG10 is great simply because it’s so user-friendly and easy to maintain. K390 shines in that it will sharpen to an unbelievable extent…the edge aggression you can achieve is unbelievable and it’ll maintain that front end aggression for a while. Aside from that, it’s all about what level of stainlessness you’re looking for.

Hap40 is closer to K390 than you think. It is very similar in structure to Rex 45 (some call it an analog but I don't think they are identical) and Rex 45 is in the same class for edge retention as K390. Outpost 76 does pretty good testing on all these steels and they are too close to call, I love Rex 45 (Hap40) and K390. I own several knives in both steels and I've never had to sharpen either of them so what testing were you getting the difference in edge retention for the two steels?

Marv Thomas -I can't speak to the Knifecenter Exclusive with Hap40 (although all of the Hap40 I've seen is superb) I have the Endura with K390. Neither plain nor fancy words can express how excellent this blade steel is. It's still on the factory edge, and the blade is still almost sharp enough to split a Hydrogen atom. Edge holding on this is unreal. I'm excited to hear Bohler has a new steel coming out, K490 which has even more blade toughness, but the K390 is already tough as hell, and I believe this thing holds an edge better than S110V (might be because S110V may have tiny chips on the edge.) I whole-heartedly recommend the K390 blade.

I am almost ready to pull the trigger on the wharncliffe version, however i would actually like to see a comparison with the boker ak1, mainly in the grip comfort and blade geometry departments. Keeping in mind that money IS a factor which would you recommend?
@giu-gana2 жыл бұрын
Damn i did't see the makro was already in the episode
@amartide2 жыл бұрын
My MKM just arrived this morning. I would recommend it over my Böker AK1. The MKM hast this famous "reverse Tanto Wharmcliff" which I love. Böker has the nicer, classical wood handle. MKM is just "only" micarta. MKM has this "soft" magnetic sheeth, Böker AK1 has the scratchy metal util clip. The util clip is quite scratchy, but secure for a camping side. The MKM magnetic sheeth is very easily magnetic attached, but can easily get lost while you are climbing a tree, Maybe. I got the MKM 4 hours ago and vote for the MKM. Boker is slightly more expensive. But it is not over priced. You get some value for the money. (Better screws; wood handle, ...)

Curious. A few years back I purchased a Kershaw Thistle. When I first saw it it seemed to me that this was the answer to making a liner lock finger safe but the design doesn’t appear to have taken off or gained much popularity. I still have mine and it still works flawlessly so am curious as to what your thoughts are on this particular knife locking design and why it didn’t take off.
