I love that Kentucky toothpick! I myself am a Kentucky boy and Kentucky proud!

I agree with you about the blades. I like the older ones. They remind me of the old Hammer brand “press button” automatics. I hope someone like Bear & Son would start making those old style autos. Thanks for sharing your collection.

I really like the one with the Kodiak shield. That handle is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for showing all these great knives!

They did a really nice job dying the bone on that one. It does hit all the marks.

Good lookin' knives! I'm liking this Large Toothpick pattern. I don't have any but its similar to the French Laguiole pattern (not sure what the official name of the pattern is), which I have a few of and really like. Though, the handles on the Laguioles tend to be more rounded than these Large Toothpicks - I like the slim profile of these! Thanks for the video!

I picked up a Bear & Son stockman last year, excellent quality, no machine marks or gaps. They say it’s Rosewood, but looks just like yours. Love these Toothpicks, don’t have any in my collection yet. Maybe someday. Great video thanks for the info.

my bet is the handle pakkawood made of a rosewood laminate. That would be an inexpensive way to produce a strong, stabilized handle.

You got me into the toothpick pattern, and it's become possibly my favorite traditional pattern. I only have 3 of the large ones at this point, but I'm sure there will be more in the future. I tend to carry the medium toothpicks more than the large, but I do still like the large. I only have one small toothpick, a Col Coon in stag. I find the small ones to just not be all that practical. I much prefer the medium or large, but it seems everyone and their brother makes the small ones, but not the medium, or even more rare, the large...go figure. I don't understand why that is, but it is what it is. If I'm going to carry a smaller knife, I'd much prefer a Barlow or Copperhead pattern.

Love the Kentucky jigged bone!

Very nice! I looked up Col. Coon knives here and the three patterns here are £58 each, stockman, trapper & Barlow all only in walnut. That makes them just between £1 and £6 cheaper than equivalent Case knives, and two and a half times equivalent Rough Riders! And still no large toothpick!!!

Cool video! I have been looking at toothpick style knives a little more closely since watching your videos. I recently acquired in a knife lot an Imperial Fish knife that has the same look as a toothpick style knife. I will be doing a video on it in the future. I also, have encountered some knives that are more difficult to sharpen. I wonder if I just have a harder time getting used to the grind angle on certain knives, or what it is. On other knives, I have no issue. There are those that I change sharpening methods a couple of times trying to get a decent edge on it. My go to, is my EZ Lap Diamond lap, then from their if that doesn't work, I go through rough medium and fine stones, and if all else fails I have a Smith's Electric sharpener as a WLR - Weapon of Last Resort :) Although I only use that on lower end knives that have seen better days.

I have an old 5" ACSB toothpick made by Queen. It looks a lot like one of those Bear & Son toothpicks. Tobias, do you know if Queen made any for Bear & Son?

Great video! Those are some nice Toothpicks, I collect them, too. What's your opinion of the RR French Tickler Toothpick?
@KnifeChatswithTobias4 жыл бұрын
I just recently picked it up, maybe 6 months ago. Been looking at it for years. I've always looked at it as "not a proper toothpick!" That said its not at all a bad knife. It also seems to be one the Rough Ryder opted to remake; either that or they found found some new old stock in the warehouse. Definitely worth the $12-15.

Large toothpick knives are definitely getting hard to find. The only one I have is a FROST MOP.

Nice. I think the Kodiak is my favourite of the bunch. Compared to the older blades, the newer look almost boring.

Hey Tobias, another great video, funny, but the toothpick is just uninteresting to me. Had one years ago and couldn't even lose it!!, have a great one!!!🔪🗡🔪🗡🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🙄🗡

That they are. They changed the frame and the blade profile for their more recent toothpicks. And it really wasn't a step in the right direction. Their older toothpicks were better. The thing is -- currently Bear and Son is the only USA made large toothpick in town.

Love your channel, but i wont buy any bear and sons. I bought a barlow from them, and the main blade didnt open fully. Appeared the springtop was poorly ground, canting thr blade forward and very easily coming forward. Not 'seated' when open. Was basically told thats just how it is. Ive never used or carried it.
@KnifeChatswithTobias3 жыл бұрын
I've been lucky with the Toothpicks but i swear most of their knives have serious quality control issues. I normally only buy them when I can handle them first! They really tend to disappoint. It's a pity.
