That's a beautiful knife! I have one of those same blocks from Oleg I haven't used yet, but now I'm thinking I should pull it out! 👍🏻

Good Lord, what a gorgeous knife! Wasn't so sure about the color of the micarta scales, but that inlay knocked it out of the park. Can't say enough good things about your craftsmanship, attention to details and artistic talents. Appreciate the video and have a great week. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you Andrew! i have only tried stabilized material from 4 makers. This Oleg stuff was significantly better. consistent straight to the center of the block.

As allways amazing work!! Maybe for the secondary bevel you could try a sharpening notch. I would like to see your process of making the belt loop, its a very nice touch instead of a belt clip.

Thank you! I tend to find I don't like sharpening choils in real world use but this did make me reconsider lol. And I will do another sheath video at some point in the future.

How much do you grind before putting satanite (clay) on before heat treat. Basically what thickness at the edge pre ht

If you're using W series steel, why quench in oil? That hamon is beautiful! Nicely done!
@Wengelsworkshop
@Wengelsworkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Lol valid point. Of the research I did it still recommended a fast quench oil. You probably would not want to use parks aaa or canola though. Thank you Isaac!

I'm curious about w2 steel. Obviously it's the best for a harmon but what do you think of it as a knife steel compared to other steels you've used?
@Wengelsworkshop
@Wengelsworkshop 2 жыл бұрын
They say W2 varies depending on where you buy it, but most people describe it as 1095 with a little vanadium or 1084 with a little vanadium. The heat treat took well. I tested the edge cutting half way through a 2x4 and it was just as sharp as before hacking at the 2x4 for a bit.

There's only one way to earn to taper the tang of your knives. Just go for it. Once you do you'll find it's not as hard as you thought. And the looks and feel of the knife is night and day you will never want to just settle on drilling holes again. Nice job on your knife.
@Wengelsworkshop
@Wengelsworkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice Garet! do you free hand the tapered tangs?
@garetkonigsfeld2
@garetkonigsfeld2 2 жыл бұрын
@@Wengelsworkshop yes I put a center line mark and i grind the end to what ever thickness i want the tapered tang to be then i do just like you did on the 2in wheel of my platen I grind almost to the edges a fuller on the tang that way there's not so much material to remove i like to use a magnet as a handle. Seems to work well for me. As good as you do your bevels you will have no problems.
