I may have an unpopular opinion here, but I will state it. I, like many, saw and knew the original Knight Rider before I even knew that the 2008 Knight Rider show even existed. I loved the original so much, and it pained me to see them try so hard to live up to the expectations that the 1982 show laid out for them, and still target younger audiences. They tried their best, but they fell short, and that is the reason why this show only has a single season. However, I do think that KR08 is given more hate than deserved, and is not at all as bad as people make it out to be It's a good show overall, but will, personally, never compare to the original Knight Rider that I know and love. The 2000 will always top the 3000 for me in so many ways, two of the reasons being that I just prefer the sleeker look of the trans Am for KITT, and how futuristic it still looks to this day, and that the 2000 has so much more personality, and grew as a character so much more, even throughout the original first season. As well as those massive changes for the 3000 not being necessary, like the change to a truck or a van. No need, I'm sorry. But the show is good, and definitely worth a shot for those fans of the original like me! It may not completely live up to the legend, but that doesn't matter at this point, because it's a good show that we should all give a chance.

Knight Rider 2008 had potential. It connected the 80s series with this one, it even had a really good pilot that showed the orig TransAm body to hit home its connection...also original show creator Glen Larson was the Exec Producer for the pilot. It even cameo'd Micheal Knight. I liked the lead actor well enough, and Val Kilmers voice was comfortable enough. It wasnt William Daniels but lets just say it...nothing else ever will be. The car abilities were fine, minus the transforming aspect. That was a bit over the top but not a gamebreaker. Problem was actually the rest of the series...instead of cases (like the original) that felt like they were helping the common people; they instead used 'missions' that didnt quite feel right. Espionage, politics, military this n that....these type of assignments are good in shows like 24 and Blacklist for example, but not Knight Rider. People liked the Knight Rider helping farmers steer off land developers, or someones husband kidnapped...stories that pull heart strings or feel closer to home. In short i think the boring dull stories and missions were the essential problem. But hey, thats just my take on it. I didnt love it but I liked it enough and im a huge fan of the original.

To be fair, in the second half of the season with the death of old guy that restarted the Knight Rider project and leaving everything to his daughter, they went back to helping the common people a bit, but by then the damage had been done.

Knight Rider has, and should ALWAYS be a Pontiac Trans Am. By going to the dark side and making a "KITT" from a Mustang, puts the show in the gutter before it ran its pilot episode. Oh well...history proves the theory correct.

Couldn't do that in modern time. 1. Pontiac, by the time this series came out, was already out of business, being a victim to GM's incompetent management and the 2008 recession. The Firebird was discontinued years before (remember, the TransAm is a trim level on a Firebird). 2. There aren't enough 1982 Pontiac Firebird TransAms out there. Remember, the Firebirds radically changed designs going into the 90's (in fact, the Knight Industries 4000 looked a bit like a 90's Firebird). All remaining ones that look like KITT are in collector's hands (with many modded out to look like KITT). 3. The closest car that you could use if you were insisting on staying with GM would be the Chevrolet Camero, but those weren't being made in 2008. GM discontinued them in 2002 and brought them back in 2009, after the series was cancelled. Had Glen Larson started production a couple of years later and introduced Knight Rider in, say, 2010 or 2011, they could have easily used a Camero instead of a Mustang (and I think it would have been a better fit for die hards like yourself). I've looked at the 5th generation Camero and you could modify the trim level enough on it to make it look like a worthy successor to a Pontiac Firebird TransAm.

Flat out the truth, as long as he could target his thrusters, like he did reversing them, but this time setting them to the side, then yes. It's completely plausible. The 2008 show was good, but even in a flat out death match, the 2000 would completely beat out the 3000 no questions for me. There are so many reasons that I won't even go into detail about but I will say this: The 2000 had so many more capabilities, more personality, more field experience, was quicker, more agile, ect. As the old add says, "The Competition, is no Competition"

I was always mad that this got cancelled. I always chalked it up to people who can't suspend disbelief selectively to the reason. But objectively looking back, they could've toned down the transformers shit a bit.Or at least start slow and give him KITTs original abilities, and then he pulls off an over the top trick 2 or 3 times a season. But it started at "over the top". It was like introducing something too fast. Didn't bother to hook them before building up to the sizzle.

Honestly, they did take the transformations a bit too far. Had they kept it similar to the pilot, I think it would've worked better. But the real problem was the writing. The hook from 1982 was "One man can make a difference," and I think shifting the story from helping the little guy to being in a paramilitary mission system was just not going to cut it. Past the halfway point, they went back to the original story formula, but by then viewers had enough.

Well, there were the three attempts in the 90s. Knight Rider 2000, Knight Rider 2010, and Team Knight Rider. I think its hard to do a new Knight Rider, because it was a product if its time (not sure I'm using that description properly), and as time went by, the franchise didn't have that appeal like it originally did. TKR was probably more closer to the original series than KR 08. Although I haven't seen that show since it was cancelled, so I might be wrong.

I get there are time constraints when it comes to TV shows, but they absolutely destroyed this song - and I don't mean that as a compliment. At the very least, they should have used a 3 minute version of this song for the pilot, then used this existing short version for the later episodes. It would have been much more satisfying and may have even carried the show into another season. Don't get me wrong: the opening 30 seconds is amazing and was a perfect setup for what should have been a series-solidifying song, only to then kill the momentum with what sounds like a high-school band director's solution to quickly shorten a song at the last minute. It made it so hard to get into this show - which in itself had problems because it was too busy trying duplicate plots from the original series instead going their own way. I'm mean, seriously, they supposedly made the same mistake twice by re-creating KARR which again turned evil? If this was a true reboot, that would have been fine - but this was a continuation of the original program.

I still see a red mustang with a white stripe and think Domino. In 2008 they couldn't even get the Karr storyline right. It was as if they read a synopsis and never watched an episode.

I disagree. What would you have them use instead? Pontiac of 2008 didn't really have a lot to bring to the table. The G8 had a V8 in it, but was a 4-door family car, not a muscle/sports car (and also was an imported Australian Holden). They had the Solstice, but that was a 2-door, 2-seater convertible with an (optional) turbocharged 4 cylinder (also an imported UK Vauxhall). Over at Chevy, the Camaro was well over a year and a half from being released (mid-late 2009 as a 2010 model year), and was busy starring as the rebooted Transformers icon. NBC couldn't really use Dodge, because those cars were the stars of another popular 80's TV show. That left the Mustang as their only 2 door V8 sports car. To be fair, the Knight Rider of 2008 played off as a 45 minute long commercial for Ford, and also a great way to not so subtly hide in some pro War On Terror propaganda. The show got a lot better towards the end when they dropped all that and returned to the themes of the original: that one man can make a difference.
