A lease operator I talked to in Phoenix, had a LLC set up and was himself the per diem as an employee wage. He said it was for tax reasons. He also said he set up a separate account for a weekly deposit for the balloon payment. He finished the lease and was still running reefer for knight. Now, of course, he is making more money because the truck is paid off. I'll be watching to see how this goes....

I agree with you on the percentage vs milage pay according to how the market is now. However regardless of how you get paid it's still all about moving the load. If the company doesn't have much freight to go around for both company driver's and ops wether spot market or customers, you still will have a hard time. However I appreciate the detailed video, be safe!

Great information. My neighbor drives for Knight and I'm thinking about getting my cdls myself. Tired of the healthcare industry

Can't be a lease operator for Knight in Wa State. This state has strong rules on what an employee versus contractor is. Knight doesn't want to comply because it wants the benefits of employee control without the employee costs. All OTR leases benefit the company. I drove OTR 25yrs, 7 with knight. Knight settled a lawsuit which paid 2years of mortgage payments on my house. Thx Knight.

I was a company driver for Knight in 2015. They had freight back then and kept me moving as a company driver. Hopefully, it's the same with Lease Operator. I was hitting 3500 miles a week on the west coast. I left for more hometime.

They'll keep him moving up until he needs time off. Take too much time off and they'll starve you out. They'll keep any new lease going straight off the bat cause of that note that goes directly off his weekly pay right to Knight. Heck, Knight will most likely fire their worst company drivers than give less miles to a lease operator due to the fact that those weekly payments are guaranteed income for Knight. It's when you take a little more hometime off than what these lease operator companies will admit to cause if you fall a few weeklt payments they'll starve you out so you quit and then they can take the truck back and do it all over again. THere's a reason why 1 out of 40 lease operators succeed in this market now. I'm not surprised since this driver is a gambler, he loves to take those big risks. 😉

Haven't heard anything about them... My opinion is all mega carriers are the same. Low pay but they will train you.

Buy a truck from knight and you will be on the road in 3 days.

That doesn't sound good if they have a truck for months to be fixed.

Its more of a waiting list. Not enough mechanics available, which is pretty common right now all throughout the industry. I also do not believe getting the lease vehicles up to spec is priority over vehicles that are currently assigned to company drivers or other lease operators who are already on the road.
