thanks for the vid! i literally just got tapped by a dude 60lb smaller than me (we started from the knees so no slamming) and i underestimated his strength/speed. Long story short he got me in the headlock with my arm trapped and I had no idea what to do so I had to tap. I legit thought I was just check mated with no options. Now when we rematch I'll be prepared :D

Im taking notes on this! So many people quit in the beginning because they get treated like a grappling dummy and this is not necessary to learn. I'm not quite a year in and just starting to do positional light sparing with a partner at home. School it's just lessons still. Please do yourself a big favor and go do some jiu-jitsu. This is the best Kesa Gatame escape video I have seen yet. I need options in case my initial escape attempts fail. This video provided those alternatives. My gripe with most "headlock escape" tutorials is how they're mostly dependent on the person on top not knowing any grappling techniques. Those techniques don't work on Judokas that will instinctively try to flatten you and press on your diaphragm with their weight. Anchoring that elbow to stay on your side is crucial. I'm glad that was emphasized. Good stuff. Thanks. I definitely will be applying what I learned here.

This is the first video I’ve found titled headlock escape that was actually an escape, the rest were headlock prevention techniques. I’m hoping to find one that is geared more towards two untrained fighters. Most untrained guys don’t headlock like that, they are most like gonna do the headlock from a position where both ppl are standing, facing each other and one is bent over in a headlock. I think the next most common would be where the guy doing the headlock is sitting and the guy in the headlock is behind him on all fours. Would like to see escapes from these scenarios

The Kesa Getame escape works really well. I suck but I can do it to better guys. Kurt Osiander does a version where you almost spoon the guy, then turn your hips upward, bridge (bring their head to the floor) and turn. They feel pretty light once you load them so far north.

I've been trying to get out of this hold for 4 weeks. The instructor says "you down, you hold, go" and just let's us go at it with no instruction. I've tried bridging the chin/neck, trapping the head with my leg, rolling him straight back (almost popped a rib), and even shooting my left hand between his body and mine to wedge the choke, no go. That last one works a little but with my right arm trapped like in the 3rd demo, I damn near pulled my shoulder out. The higher ranked students seem just as clueless because they can't get out either except for maybe one or two who can either wiggle lose or power through it. I'm looking forward to testing these techniques out this weekend.

I have question, as always. We did something that does t have a name. Starting in back guard. I guess what to call. Instead of seatbelt. Yu grab the gi up close to the shoulders and pull back. Far back. And for the other person it is not comfortable. Then hook arm with one leg, same side arm then wraps up the neck for choke. Does this make sense??? One more. Do you have videos about big guys like myself (6’3” 235lbs) on how we can use our size to sweep people when normally their balance would be on point. I e noticed lately since I’m back to training that I’m getting sweeps in areas or positions I didn’t normally get. I think it’s because my size.
@KnightJiuJitsu4 жыл бұрын
I have some back attack options on here that have something along what you’re describing I think. Check those out. As for big guy sweeps, that’s not really a topic I’ve hit, but most my sweep options on here would only work even better for big guys.

how would you get out of the headlock if your head is face down to the floor and the person is on your back
@KnightJiuJitsu5 жыл бұрын
If you were face down and they were on your back, it would be a rear choke instead of a headlock. And if it is sunk in, there is extremely little chance you could possibly escape. You could tuck your chin, try to rotate to face them or possibly try to get to all fours and shake them loose...but if they were good enough to get you in that position to begin with, I would guess you're pretty much done at that point.

Recently I was rolling with someone fairly inexperienced, what I noticed is often times new guys will simply latch onto your head/neck because they don't know any better. However we were rolling at a pretty high pace and I wound up on my back going for a sloppy half guard underhook escape/standup and would up in a bulldog choke/headlock position. He wasn't choking me just cranking my neck and I would up tapping to avoid any injury. Anyone have experience with this position/escaping it? My pride hurt a little getting tapped by someone so raw that's not on my level skill wise lol but you learn.

@KnightJiuJitsu6 жыл бұрын
The guillotine question might be tricky to articulate here...I will try to make a video on that soon. As for the first question, this could be the result of being taken down with a headlock type of control and landing in that position or from being on the ground in the fight already and the opponent gaining that control during a transition. It’s a pretty common occurrence both ways.
