The production value of this show was off the charts! I loved Knight Rider as a kid, but only recently have I realized that that it's a masterpiece in terms of stunt work and practical effects. It's odd to se a TV show from the 80's have better car action than the latest Batman movie (which has better car scenes than most of current year movies). The angles, the timing, the impact! It all works. It's almost as if Hollywood forgot how to shoot certain scenes! The fact that there's 0 CGI used makes these scenes so much more visceral. You know that car is in the air or smashing through the wall... and someone is behind the wheel driving it.

Not really. The miniatures are terrible, the stuntdriving is terrible most of the time, and the rotoscoped animation where it is used has totally wrong scene geometry. Best thing about all the stuntwork was that Hasselhoff some of the best driving scenes himself untill he was banned after crashing a car and allowed to do low-speed stunts only.

Faces 4 and 5 are the most hilarious! And I'd say these are my top 5 favorite turbo boosts- 1. Soul Survivor - the jump at the very end of the episode 2. Silent Knight - the jump through the corn field (it's just so funny looking) 3. A Knight In Shining Armor - the jump into the apartment building 4. K.I.T.T. VS K.A.R.R. - when they turbo boost into each other 5. Custom Made Killer - the jump from one parking garage to the other

3,4,5 are model jumps. Not really cool and not really a real jump. No 1 the jump at the end is the same as he jumps over Michael driving the Mercedes. Only other camera angle.

Faces 5 and 21, and I love how RC has a 2-second delay compared to Michael in the last one, KITT must have jumped sideways there haha. But 21 takes the crown. So the roll caged acrylic jump car did 41 jumps, but how many cars where a roll caged acrylic jump car? ;) Also, wow, I didn’t realize they jumped the insert car in the pilot! Does it show any “jump damage” that you can find? Tears in the chassis or beams perhaps?

Ahhh...the turbo boost. During the car stunt crazy first half of the 80s what better than to have the capabilty to launch a car in the air whenever you want without needing a ramp, or even a "dip in the road" as the Dukes sometimes put it. No construction site needed. Just hit the button and airborne we go! Love the video!

At 3:34, as the car is descending, I saw a piece of wood coming down. If you look closely, you can see it. I loved all the Turbo Boost jumps in the series. It really got KITT and Michael Knight out of a pinch. My favorite Turbo Boost reaction is #18, where you can see Hasslehoff yelling out. With this information, I can now know which car did the turbo boost jumps throughout the show. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work!!

I was always impressed with KITT turbo boost jumping through the busy California intersection. The jump was perfectly straight and was done in an alley. Very little room for error. It always impressed me and I always wondered if Jack Gill performed that jump. Awesome!

Brilliant Joe,this was was great,probably,5 and 21 for me.... Although the Acrylic window jump car did most of the jumps,we have to assume there were sons,and daughters of the original car,as that first car probably didn't last long and going on the landings from Silent Knight and Lost Knight,more cars were probably needed...oh and less we forget the most indestructible part of KITT..the back of the driver's seat..lol...keep these comin mate...

Another fun but informative video. Seeing all the turbo boosts together I noticed when K.I.T.T. jumps over or between something, there is not much room for error making the stunt even more impressive. For reaction shots no 21 closely followed by no 5 for me. Also the miss timed reaction by RC was pretty good as well. 😁

the amount of abuse that acrylic window jumpcar has endured is highly impressive. Would love to know what (or if) it had many mods done to it, like reinforced strut towers. Or how often they had to change ripped off engine mounts.

The front looks like it buckled pretty badly on a few of those landings. That poor chassis must have been a crinkled, bent mess by the time it was retired.

Probably would have had a lot of welding to add reinforcement bars and subframe connectors, skid plates under the engine to absorb impact so as to not destroy the K member where the eingine sits. and a skid plate for the transmission as well. Not to mention replacing a lot of blown shocks, broken or cracked windshields. And the hardest part, replacing destroyed noses, and probably frame straightening.

Wasn't a fan of the Dune buggy stunt car jumps, you could really tell by the floppy and flared out fender that it wasn't the real car. I liked the ones where they used a real Trans Am and totalled the car to take one for the episode, even though the production team and their budget probably didn't! The best Turbo Boost for me (and fave episode to be honest) was the one near the end of The Topaz Connection over the ravine in that wicked car chase - I could watch that one a thousand times and never get bored, it was the best and most realistic one of the whole series for me.

I always a still have a soft spot for the turbo cast wheels on Kitt . I used to have the toy Kitt car that spoke in the mid 80s lol. Even though those Trans Am s weren't that fast they were still beautiful to look at. The 1984 T/A was my favorite followed by the 1989 GTA Official pace car with the Buick Grand National 3.8 turbo under the hood. Also the 1985 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z and the Mustang SVO were awesome 👌

Stock sound....you can hear many of those sounds in 80s shows. The "swoosch" sound are from Battlestar Galactica or Buck Rogers. Other sounds can you hear in Airwolf.

“The” roll-caged, acrylic-windowed jump car is at least a couple of cars. But because the Trans Ams were brand new at the time they often repaired it even though technically it would be a write-off.

The jump landing @3:04 then again @4:45 , @4:57 , @5:01 , @6:06 , @6:12 and @6:19 must've absolutely destroyed that cars frame! Although, it looks as a few of those shots were just reused footage from previous filming. Either way, when a car is landing so nose heavy as KITT did in the times I mentioned, it will absolutely destroy the cars frame and would be one helluva task to "fix it" well enough to continue to use it for future filming
