Honor is all. Chivalry is all. Thank you for codifying the best faction of all Warhammer.

"Oh wow a noble knight I bet he's gonna do noble stuff!" Knight: "Not so much..." Also great description of longbow v plate... it won't kill ya but image taking three of those in the middle of a horse charge. Then they finish you off on the ground with hammers.

I hate these knights with a passion after narrating this book, lol.

My Bretonnia headcannon is a mix of the old and 6th edition grimderp versions. Some nobles are dicks, others are merciful. Some peasants are bullied and starving, others have a decent farming life (beastmen raids aside). Some knights are jerk jocks, others are heroes who upholds the ideals of chivalry.

Prolly because this book is old, and Black Library only did audiobooks of their most popular stuff and/or newer stuff.

Ouch 😳 Also good that Calard is more of a reasonable knight then his more intense -Brother Bertelis." Well my knight Friends of the comment section And have good and safe weekend everyone."😃👍

Ah, oui, more time in the Old World's freaky pre-Revolution France with its horrible classism culture. Still, with “knight” in this novel's title I'm eager to know more of that predominant aspect to Bretonnian life from the actual...not boots-on-the-ground so much as armour-in-the-saddle. Well, that's one Chaos spawn of a baby that's going to survive, grown enough to command some form of dark things and then direct them in vengeance against its foolish father. The Lady did not imbue that knight with enough strength. This pair of brothers in nobility seem like affable enough young men. Superficially, Bertelis and Calard don't come across as overtly or at least despicably hateful and abusive towards peasants. Yet. Obviously an introduction's still early to turn that view around. Haughtily judgmental? Well, their informant peasant had turned on his fellow pesants in that group for his own (family's) gratification. Going by the book's description though, the two brothers' personalities are already becoming defined enough so as to be able to tell just what kind of paths these lads will take, if indeed such divergenttraumas befall them as the summary hints at. Nonetheless, I can't help but feel only sympathy for the peasantry of Bretonnia. Their uncleanliness always assured to be mentioned, and repated. As an unexpected topical setting for your latest Narrated novel, GDN, I'm enjoying this extended stay in Bretonnia following the third Florin and Lorenzo book and trilogy overall. Lookin' forward to an entire set with which to expand deeper on these duchies. Merci beaucoup, Narrator, have an awesomely healthy weekend.

This might be the first book I've narrated where I'm rooting for the beastmen.

Always had a skewed perception of bretonia. It's the Warhammer world so it is a shit place live. But I always thought it was one of the worst given how the king owns everything and he just lets his vassals levy off it. And seeing how traveling is prohibited for peasants they must have quite abit of inbreeding.Then I heard about it's knightly culture and the lady of the lake and thought. Damn that is about enough to redeem it.

It’s a feudal hellhole that’s a great reflection of what modern society will continue to become for people like you and me if we continue to allow insane concentrations of wealth by people who think they are better than us because they and their parents and parents’ parents were born lucky.
@Balrog42428 ай бұрын
Yet in typical warhammer fashion they draw the target around where the brutal arrow fell until it makes sense: due to everybody constantly turning into beastmen and other problems with the warp being so strong there, any more advanced systems have long since fallen apart. The remaining feudal system with constant sorting of the population into good and evil / soon to be dead groups enables humanity to... lose more slowly :D

This book series WAY better than Florin and Lorenzo one.

Depends what kind of stories you like, I guess. I like this one too, but I'm always rooting for the beastmen to kill these asshole knights. At least with F&L, I liked the characters as individuals.
