As the editor on a number of Marvel UK titles, including Mys-TECH Wars, featured in this volume, succeeded by Stuart Bartlett, it’s great to see Marvel reprinting this material at last. I was told some time back that the duplicate film created at time of publication had long been junked, so kudos to the reproduction team on this project. Hope it encourages further forays into the MUK archive, for Liam Sharp’s work on Death’s Head (succeeded by Simon Coleby and others); or Gary Frank’s Motormouth, for example. Thanks for the video

It's interesting to hear your thoughts from the other side of the pond on our comics Omar. The UK comics market is a very different thing to the U.S and Knights if I recall correctly was quite a popular series at the time here when it came out. We've always been keen on UK creators carving out a small area of the Marvel universe, (boy could Excalibur and Captain Britain right now use a UK creative team on them again) and these stories do link with things done here before (Dai first appeared in Captain Britain weekly - collected in Cap's omnibus of course).

Dan Abnett also wrote most of Death's Head II - waaaay past time we have a Death's Head II omni. Hopefully, this will sell well enough for David and co to set it in motion...

It should include the Incomplete Death's Head (and not just the framing sequences!), though I regret that we will never have a truly complete Death's Head omni
@chriswing74662 жыл бұрын
@@cullenn2100 it would most probably be big enough without them, sadly! Tonally, I don't think all the reprint material of 'Incomplete' would really fit, plus they wouldn't be able to reprint the finale either!

As an English guy, these comics are littered in every comic shop around here, but they're a total footnote, I knew of it but hadn't read any of it so this has made me want to go out and pick them all up, which again you can probably go to any comic shop in the UK and get a near full run of this stuff

I used to buy volume 1 of this series religiously when it was first released. As a UK reader the style of story felt very natural as it felt more in tone with something like 2000ad rather than your typical marvel fare and its where i fell in love with gary erskines work.....well this and later warheads also from marvel uk. I never warmed to volume 2 as it just felt like a standard marvel comic. But i loved the first volume.

I’ve not read this series but have preordered it in the hopes that more Marvel UK material is reprinted, I read Deaths Head II and was a fan of Motormouth as a kid; no idea if it holds up except for DH as I still own most of it. Looking forward to reading this for the first time, it’ll be very different to everything else I have from Marvel based on what you’ve said!

The first volume really is distinct from the second. The second developed to fit into Marvel UK imprint. Vol 1 was printed in the UK, vol 2 was printed in the US (but both were created/edited, etc by British creators though). So, vol 1 was pre-imprint, but still a UK book (if that makes sense!) 😁😁
@cullenn21002 жыл бұрын
There were basically two waves of "US style" Marvel UK comics (monthly as opposed to weekly, non-magazine) - first wave was Dragon's Claws, Death's Head, Gi Joe European Missions/Action Force Monthly, and the original Pendragon late in the mix... then the second wave which was way more EXTREME and lots of shoehorned Marvel U cameos
@chriswing74662 жыл бұрын
@@cullenn2100 That's right; the second wave was known as Genesia 92, and bore the unique 'Marvel UK' logo to indicate it being part of the imprint. 😁

Def my book of the year, beating out the Invaders Omni. I still have the entire UK Marvel run of US sized comics in a long box and have very fond memories of all the highs and lows and a few more lows of the titles they released. Appreciate the love for Death's Head etc... on here, but would definitely throw Warheads into the mix. Gary Erskine's art on the first few issues, as throughout KOP volume one is phenom and I used to love seeing his version of Marvel characters. Can't watch the video just yet though as mine is wrapped up under the Christmas tree with the Marvel Universe Update omni - Happy Holidays it will be!

Is a Warheads omnibus as well too much to wish for? Here's hoping
@chriswing74662 жыл бұрын
That would be awesome, albeit quite thin! Death's Head II has enough for a (big) omni, but the rest don't really have enough for a good sized omni. A one and done Epic would fit Warheada well, but I would love to see more Marvel UK stuff in OHC.
@peteryeungdesign78812 жыл бұрын
A Warheads Omni would be great, particularly if they also added in the Loose Cannons mini series that never came out. Pretty sure Mark Harrison completed it at some point. It’s also a shame that this doesn’t include the Dark Guard Gold content, as apparently Marvel has the artwork for the first issue. Some of the pages were printed in the Spanish Dark Guard TPB.

The original 6 issue run is the best, an Arturian-Green issues-Horror hybrid that was tortally unique. The more it wades into the main MCU and superheroes everyone up the more bland and generic it gets. I’ll wait for a paperback reprint of the first 6 or 12 and delete the rest from my head canon. Thanks for the review!

Wow. This was announced April 2021. Over a year and a half ago. Is the the longest lead time on a brand new (not a reprint) books announcement to release so far? Or am I crazy? Glad this is out for those that enjoy the material. Definitely a unique run.

Have other UK comics from this era been collected yet? Like Dark Angel or Deaths Head II. I recall there being a mini revival of some UK titles by Lanning in the 2000s - not sure if any of that was ever collected. I remember it was in the 90's when marvel uk tried to do us style comics that were not to be sold in you lcs, so we ended up with reprints I things like overkill. I know of this title but never read it. I prefer motormouth/kill power, hells angel/dark angel and Death's head 2. So would jump on that if thse short live titles were collected. I passed on this, but I hope people who have been waiting for it enjoy it.

They'd have to add a lot of unrelated minis to make it big enough for an omni, but that would work for me too! The upcoming Secret Wars will be a thin one, so why not a thin Warheads, or Genetix, etc? 🙂

Bought the original series as it came out off the new stand over here in South Carolina. It was fantastic and very distinct for Marvel at the time. Was so disappointed with the second series and honestly the whole Marvel UK run that tried to use every other Marvel character in every issue it seemed. Would really love a collection of the first series by itself.
