In the beginning when there was a issue with the trailer paperwork wonder how long that would have taken for the driver to resolve without the CEO at hand. Not sure it would have taken longer but I would bet it would. Would have been much more interesting had they matched him with a driver that was not as necktie friendly. Now that would be great!!

Good stuff, I have been a driver a dispatcher a regional dispatch manager and am now a terminal manger for an industrial gases company. The most important thing we as managers can do is connect with the drivers. They need to know we care about them and understand the sacrifices they make daily to provide for their families. I hope that this is still your corporate philosophy, keep those fine ladies and gentlemen rolling down the road safely.

I'm not a driver, but I've recently grown interested in the field (there's been drivers throughout my family, and I recently lost an uncle that drove his entire life OTR), and I really appreciate how the issue with the trailer registration wasn't glossed over. It wasn't ignored, and it took very little time to actually rectify. Very impressive.

Dave I'm 24 years old and was born 6 months before my father decided to become a truck driver. I grew up for the first 10 years not seeing my father for 1 or 2 months and seeing him for a day or 2 and then back again to 1 or 2 months.then when i was 10 my father became an Owner Op and then the finances become nicer but harder at the same time. the point of my speech is that i have missed a lot of time with my father and it is very hard now that I am older and i see the Dangers of the road I can only say one thing. I pray that every night my father stops at a truck stop and is able to sleep. I am glad that your trip was very nice with Allen but not everyday is so tame and nice.

That’s majorly of all transportation companies. They hire college grads who manage the bottom line, they don’t get payed to drive nor do they even want too. Ex military with logistic supply training get the management jobs. They don’t want a drivers mentality in management because they would advocate too much for the driver!

This was absolutely Fantabulous!!! Good on you Dave Jackson for getting out there with a driver and seeing a little of how it goes. To all the negative responders.... calm down. Dave didn't HAVE to do this, especially in his position, but he did, and that is the important part. How many out there can say they have had this pleasure? I think this was pretty awesome, and this here for me personally is the part of my reasons for wanting to join the Knight family. I'm truly hoping to make this a reality come April 2020 after I get everything in order with my current job, and at home. Kudos to you also Allen Reeder for being a pretty awesome Professional Truck Driver and Thank you for keeping America moving. Thanks to ALL Truckers out there for all you do. God Bless.

The next time Dave hits the road, it should be in the winter and for 30 days straight during the holidays and experience the mandatory shutdowns, 34 hour resets and low amount of hours available on the clock to continue running. Either way, like that the Big Cheese hit the road to kinda get an idea of what goes on. Loved that the original plans got scrapped. Something that happens all the time.

Every week, should pick one the executives and get down to basis, like warehouse jobs, drivers, mechanic and janitorial...If you are not capable of doing these jobs, you shouldn't be CEO or Boss or Manager, because you don't understand your employees, and what the do for the company. Just that simple. Forgot to mention, that week of " aha moment" with the same pay and benefits. I re-assured you, companies will take a second look and will improve tremendously. Good Luck!!

I am not a truck driver but an engineer in the cellular smartphone industry. I have heard a lot of conversation on SiriusXM Channel 110 (Trucking Channel) about the upside and downside of E-Logs, trucking violations, trucking regulations and much more. I also heard about lots of wasted time for truckers waiting to get unloaded or loaded. In this video, the receiving dock did not have a record of the incoming shipment which I can imagine happens more often than it should so the driver and Knight Transportation CEO had to spend time to figuring out at the warehouse site about their load delivery instead of simply electronically being informed which dock they were to be unloading at when they arrived. There are a lot of proprietary hardware devices in the truck related to the truck safety, federal/state regulations for tracking truck/trailer/driver safety. In my opinion, the next step for the trucking industry is to have an electronic delivery information interface to the warehouses where they are picking up their loads or unloading their loads. What are thoughts about this? Newer versions of Dell computers can run Android applications so applications that can run on smartphones could very well be developed on Dell Computers with a regular keyboard.

The CEO used the term "Family" To describe this wonderful culture clearly borne out of sound leadership and a very ethical and experienced group of professional family members. In describing the organisation, .. I would use: "CEO and out to the members" Not CEO and below. ...... Knight Transportation predictably will continue to grow and enjoy the fruits of their labor. ...... Congratulations from Australia.

Excellent one other thing I noticed in a lot of those videos of truckers is do we know where which truck is at the time too? I mean driving for the same Company shouldn't we also have some sort of a CORP safety agreement so when we part at truck stops we park next to each other to enhance security ? I think thinking BIG should include also BIG TEAM work. Also Vet's should have a label on their trucks or years of driving for this Company should be on the Truck marked so a rookie could walk over and ask for help knowing the other trucker has X amount of year on the belt already. This would strengthen TEAMS too.

Being able to park next to one another at locations other than company terminals is not always possible. Those place are open to the public and anyone can choice to park where they like. You will see tho that if it is optional in many cases out driving associates and other companies tend to park near one another naturally. As for the stickers who do have stickers for our retired military driving associates. As well as years of service! All great ideas ! Appreciate you taking the time to reach out. We look forward to hearing from you again.

Knight Transportation the trucking Company Maverick for example has the sticker for Veterans, UPS-SCS has that and for years and some even award truckers for accident free 10plus years and such. If I would be a rookie at your Company and I have loading issues for example at a dock I now would be able to ask an experienced driver just by looking at his cab I know how many years he’s working here. 2nd Leadership at them stations should teach teamwork because sometimes a new guy going to a terminal or customer has no idea but can ask an other team member who’s been there before or like a company trucker guide what to do at what customer and which gas/ rest station or preferred routes to take. That helps truckers a ton and cost a company only pennies.

Add up what you made for the day and then divide it for an hourly rate. Most of the time you make the same or more working at WalMart and you go home every night. Pay for truck drivers should be no less than $20 hour. You have to really enjoy traveling and have the mental ability to stay away from home for long periods.

Loved the video, but I think I've never laughed so hard. first I heard the CEO, sounds like a nice guy, say as he's watching you face time with your grand kids, "isn't it nice that modern technology allow you to stay in touch with family while away from them on the road.", then the pro says "Yeah, it really is. " but what I heard in my mind was. "isn't it nice that when you're gone so much, you never see your kids, but at least you can face time with them." Then what made me laugh hysterically is when the CEO said something like. "Isn't it nice to be able to look out and see the wonderful country we life in, I mean, what a beautiful view!". and the pro driver said something like. "Yeah, it's very theaaputic when I think about my second divorce." as if to say, living on the road away from home will cause you to loose not one but two wives. sorry, I drove back in the day before we even had cell phones and GPS's, and I'm sure it cost me my first marriage. so I guess my mind put that all together... great video. really. *smile*

If my calculations are right, Million only drove about 300 miles each day for 2 days. Is that by choice, or is it that hard to get miles? I know that he said that he is semi retired, two weeks on two off. But those two on, wouldn't he want more miles. And, the unloading and loading in LA, was about three hours. That along with the 30 break cut into his 11 hours driving, by at least 30 minutes. Is this common?

It was interesting to see how other companies work. I've been driving food-grade tankers for the last 9 years and I suggested that our people from the office come out on the road to see "just what truckin is like". But no they want to be behind their desks.

I think they would find tons of value in coming out on the road with their drivers. Their takeaways would help improve the company.

I tried to tell them that when I was working in the office in 2011 when I was on "light-duty" after a fall off the top of a tanker. I loved talking to our other drivers on the phone. Helping them with issues I had.

I only watched the first 10 minutes and could tell that that guy doesn't pre-trip his truck everyday lol. If he did it would have been a habit by now to turn the lights on right away so you don't have to go back in the truck and do it and if you did it every day your body would be so used to it that you wouldn't break a sweat even in Arizona

This is to the CEO of knight trucking I saw the KZbin with you and a driver the way to insure your truck and trailers are safe to run over the road is to have a dedicated knight shop and make it mandatory that each truck and trailer that come off the HWY MUST GO THROUGH SHOP FOR QUICK INSPEC.YOUR MAINTENANCE BILL WOULD BE WELL SPENT

I think to inspect a trailer you need to hookup air and electric to check anything on a trailer and watching some of these guys they would need 5 to 10 years to figure it out..
