I totally agree with the driver,companies would have a lot less problems if their office staff and managers spent some time on the road.

I am retired now and have been since 2010 but I ran with a Knight driver once for the best part of a day back in 1999 when my Mom was dying. We jabbered on a side channel on the CB the whole time and he was a great comfort to me. So I always had a good impression about Knight because of that and because they had nice equipment and still do. For a non-union truckload carrier I have a feeling that Knight is probably one of the better outfits. But I do have to question what the driver in this video says about "Knight pays us for everything we do" because I highly doubt that is true. There was only one driving job that I ever had that payed me for everything (aka all my time) and they paid me $10 per hour x 23.5 hours per day the whole time I was with the truck irregardless of whether I was driving, or on duty not driving, or in the sleeper berth actually sleeping, or off duty in the truckstop eating or showering. We kept track of our own time and recorded it on time sheets and our time began when we entered the yard in our personal vehicle and it continued the whole time we were on the road with the truck and it ended when we got back home and drove out of the yard in our personal vehicle and headed for our homes. They paid time & one-half for all driving & on duty time after 40 hours & straight time only for sleeper & off duty time. They deducted 1/2 hour per day for lunch breaks and thus the 23.5 hours pay per day, but we could take as long as needed for lunch and still be paid for it. Plus, they paid for our meals and showers with no limits. They paid for our cellphones (no qualcomms or any type of satellite communications in the trucks). They paid for every tool we needed to do our job, ie: laminated atlas, voice recorder for state line mileages, etc. They paid for ANYTHING we wanted to do our jobs easier and better. They even paid for one of those spring-loaded gizmos for holding the lockpins out on the tandem slider for me and that was about $50. That thing sure was a godsend when sliding tandems. They paid up to $75 (in 2002 dollars) for a nice pair of safety shoes for us once per year. If a lumper was needed they paid 100% of the fee. We calculated what our expenses would be prior to our trips and they gave us whatever amount we asked for BEFORE we left on the trip and then we turned in the receipts and leftover cash when we got back home a few days later. They paid for truck & trailer washes as often as we needed them at Blue Beacon, and we were paid while we were waiting for Blue Beacon to wash the rig. We were paid for cleaning the inside of the cab. We actually WERE paid for EVERYTHING. They did many other countless things for us. One of the best parts for me was that I could run perfectly legal and actually log it the way I ran it and still make an excellent paycheck. I was only away from home for usually 3-4 days per week sometime between Monday-Saturday, and then off duty at home the other 3-4 days per week, and I still averaged about $45K-55K per year in 2002 dollars. It was a drivers dream job. They respected us with their actions in the way they paid us and paid for all our needs. Respect wasn't just a word with them. I'm not going to say their name, but they are a private international food manufacturer and you would instantly know who they are if I said their name. We hauled only our finished food product out and then raw ingredients back on our return trip to make more product. It was the best job of any job, driving or not, I ever had in my entire 36 year working career. It was the highest model of what every trucking job should be.

He is right in saying that a pre-trip is important, but it's not the most important one. the post trip is more important if something is wrong it gives you plenty of time to get your truck in a shop and have the issue repaired.

Before cell phones I got lost and had to call dispatch for help. I saw a guy working at a little warehouse, asked if I could use the phone, he said sure and pointed me the way. I hadn't noticed my surroundings on my way to the phone so while I was on hold I started to look around and I saw row after row of shelves like in a library only instead of books they were full of DVD's with naked people on the cover of every one of them. Right when I realized I was standing in the middle of some kind of Adult Video distribution center the lady at dispatch picked up the phone and asked what I needed. The thought "To get outta here!" flashed through my mind but I stood there 5 to 10 seconds, embarrassed , stuttering and stammering and I was finally able to explain my predicament, get the info I needed and I left. And it was none too soon.

@SKC6403 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed the video but my God please buy this driver some WD-40 for his seats even though it's probably the passenger seat so he doesn't really hear it but wow I cannot believe you guys kept saying LOL but in all seriousness I'm loving these videos seems like a great company to work for especially the first one having these relationships and I completely agree with the drivers put anybody in the office especially the dispatchers in a truck for a day or two so they know what these drivers are doing because these are not just drivers and they're having to live their life about 90% of round of what's happening during that time and I've seen it first hand a lot of these managers and dispatchers have no idea what these truckers go through and they get treated completely like dirt because something goes wrong or about a 100% of the time it's always when they're being loaded so it's the other company at hand but the driver is the one taking the heat for it all and one thing that the dispatchers really don't understand while they're sitting there yelling and getting angry with the driver you think the driver wants to be in that position anymore than the dispatcher does cuz when that truck isn't rolling that driver's not making money he's not doing any of that on purpose

Why two different color tractors? Branding best practices suggest one color. The red is cool. Then again, maybe the different color is for different services? Even with different services, all Fedex and UPS trucks look the same, just the wording is different. Just a thought.
