If you are going to rip back the collar of the Noro sweater, anyway, then use that already washed yarn to extend the bottom, and then use the new yarn for both the collar and the bottom hem ribbing!

To protect your peace and well-being, PLS throw the mohair cardigan in a Ziploc bag and put it in the freezer before frogging!! Freezing mohair makes it stick to itself so much less and makes it way easier to unravel! :)

I saw Knitted by Mandy frog an entire sweater…so I got myself ready to frog an entire sweater 😭 great video! Also I loved what you said “ageing is a privilege” it made me audibly go “oooooohh” very nice way to look at it!

I agree, the purple sweater you’re wearing looks great on you, and the grey tank seems to wash you out! Makes me think you’re most likely not a summer, and you’re probably either a winter or autumn. I would recommend checking out Miriam Style’s color system! She has a lot of great videos on coloring that can help in general 😊

I love that you’re taking the time to make adjustments that will make you love your knits! On frogging the Whitmoor, what you said about the 2 yarns knitting at different gauges if you don’t separate them is a legit concern! I recently had a similar frogging scenario and I did not separate the yarns. When I reknitted it, the strands of yarn coming from the ball were never the same length. The mohair was substantially longer and it was so frustrating. It just keeps gradually getting longer as you keep knitting. There’s nothing you can do to fix it except cut it. Finally when I got to a good spot I separated them which was really hard to do from the ball. It would have been a lot easier to do it as I was frogging.

If you have leftover yarn from the Ingrid top, you could knit small swatches and dye them a couple of colors to see how the yarn takes the dye!

This was inspiring! Good for you on investing the time in making your knits more wearable. I have a few similar tasks lined up for myself.

Ingrid, turquoise! To rip wool and mohair, freeze it first and they will come out easily.

I have a bouclé and mohair sweater that I want to frog. I made it wayyyy too big and it is not flattering on my body at all. I think frogging and starting over with help me choose to wear it more! Especially if I feel more comfortable and confident in it! 🥰

Don't know if anyone said it already, but I have read/heard that putting mohair in the freezer before frogging makes it much easier. Wishing you lots of patience and good luck!! I should really reknit the toe on a pair of sock I knit two years ago... And I have frogged a colour work sweater recently, because I just did not like the fit! So I feel some of your pain 😬

loved this video! always good to reconsider knits that didn't work out the way you wanted them to. i recently frogged an entire jumper that i worked on for several months because it just was not really wearable (multiple issues - wrong yarn for the project, did not fit properly, me just making mistakes etc.). in the beginning it felt really sad but now i feel like i got all this yarn for a new jumper for free haha! am currently knitting it into a different pattern and absolutely loving it.

I can't wait to see your follow up on this! I have a large quantity of off white drops belle that I hate (colour looked different on my screen). The composition is almost the same as Line I think. I would be so exited if the dyeing turns out good! I haven't been brave enough to try. For your cardigan, I would probably try to find someone who loves it and buy new yarn because frogging with mohair is no fun. If you do it however I can highly recommend the Lento. No need to worry about gauge. You could start after the ribbing and pick up the neckline later with whatever amount of stitches/needle size you want for your neck. And the raglan increases are so easy to adjust to your preferred fit. I have seen the whitmoore pattern so many times and I really like the look of the lace but I know I will never wear it. Any sort of feminine embellishment is just not me. Same with the Ranunculus. I have thought so many times I should knit it but it is so far away from my simple, plain style. I would never reach for it.

I've reknit the contrast collar on a jumper in a more complimentary collar. And I've crocheted elastic around the armholes of a vest that was too big to cinch it in.

Totally on the same page with modifying and “fixing” garments I made but don’t wear. I over dyed my Deliciosa in Shelter, which was in an unflattering color. I added a chunky folded collar to my Athena, which I made in superwash Madeline Tosh Merino and wasn’t wearing since it grew a ton and had a far too open neckline for the warmth of the garment. I ripped out the collar on my Ocean Mist in Biches et Buches Le Coton & Alpaca, because I couldn’t wear the yarn next to my skin and the OG bias collar that Thea Colman designed just didn’t suit my style, and added a simple, narrow folded collar for winter wear. Lastly, I took the zipper out of my modified Metamorphic cardigan, as the whole garment was just drooping, again from 100% superwash yarn choice of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool and Versus, reblocked to desired measures, reinforced collar with crochet and reinstalled zipper. All of these worked great. I still don’t wear Deliciosa a ton because the lay of the cables at the back of the neck isn’t flattering to my eye. (It makes me think of Amy Schumer’s hilarious but scarring bit on being diagnosed with a hump!) Anyway, my list for modification is just getting longer as I think of improvements and see how these projects are often faster, totally free, and a gratifying, low-risk way to learn new skills. Next up: grafting stockinette to lengthen sleeves without ripping out color work and twisted rib at the cuff of my Pamplemousse. Hshenry on Ravelry, if you want to check any of them out. I look forward to seeing your upgrades to your hand-knit wardrobe!

Frogging a half finished scarf that wasn't bringing me as much joy anymore, while watching your video! So appropriate 😅👌 Also I'm repurposing the yarn to make maybe the Elizabeth Blouse by petitknit at some point this year (I still need to see if I can meet gauge but since it's a poppy red colour I'm already daydreaming about having it on my needles in late autumn to wear it around Christmas time😂😂)

Frogging a sweater with mohair is a nightmare, maybe co spider gifting that sweater instead because it is lovely, even if not your style. Navy would be a nice color on you to overdye, and darker colors can be easier to get even coverage of. :)

You are brave for knitting flipping it all! Good luck with this. I've been wanting to unpick the bind off from the sleeves of my DRK Stripes and make a tubular instead, but the acrylic of the sweater gives me pause. Will it hold up? As for the colour season, I also think you're an autumn :) A Winter will find themselves more flattered by the light blue of your Ingrid sweater than the medium lavender colour you like on yourself. Winters gravitate to the extremes of light/darkness and also the brighter versions of cool colours. You seem to prefer keeping your colours in a more muted and medium-value realm, and this is adequate to Summer (if cool) or Autumn (if warm)

do you have advice for figuring out what weights to hold together to make a gauge? I bought this beautiful lace-weight yarn but I cant for the life of me find what weight to pair it with to make something i'd like and that would feel good on the skin. Anything helps :)

There are some helpful charts out there on the internet, when in doubt always gauge swatch! Usually a lace and fingering weight yarn will equate to a dk weight.

If you want to start exploring color theory, start with your undertone! The rest comes after that, but just knowing your undertone can help a lot if you're not super confident with color 😊

If you are going to make a super traditional or feminine looking lace, I’d make it in a nontraditional or edgy colour like black or maybe a metallic

I totally don't think that this color scheme works. You just make another make up and use another foundation for skin, or another blush and become a different type. I prefer to use comfortable colors for myself. For example apple green 🍏 and violet 😊 .
