Love the episode & recap. Frederick MD is a wonderful historic town. I’ve been there several times over the past years & would always visit The Knot House before they closed. Magpie opened their storefront about a year ago. Prior to that they only dyed yarn & sold at other stores including The Knot House. Another great fiber festival you should go to is Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival in Berryville VA. It is towards the end of September & a 2 day event. Not as big as MDSW but a lovely festival. Also Frederick MD as some smaller festivals thru the year.

It was great to meet you both at MDSW! (I am the Joanne of “Joanne and Helen” that you mentioned)! Just a suggestion - if you want to go again next year, now is the time to reserve an AirBnB in Frederick - they book up very early. Most have free cancellations before April 2024, so if something changes, you can get your full deposit back. Also, you might consider coming to the Shenandoah Fiber Fest in the fall (before Rhinebeck) - it’s smaller tha MDSW but the area is equally beautiful and Winchester, Virginia is equally as charming. Hope to see you again soon!

Your hotel site was originally developed as a country club, with a nearby outdoor Music Fair under a tent with canvas director's chairs as seating. The owner/developer used to come to the club's pool and give away tickets. I saw travelling musicals there in their theatre in the round, sitting in my bathing suit with a cover-up as a kid. That development evolved into Washingtonian Rio Center. I'm glad you enjoyed the new development. Despite the drive, the location gave you a prettier drive out to Howard County to the festival, although Howard County resists widening roads for places with sporadic events, so the fairgrounds always seems blindsided by crowds trying to enter and exit. The 4-H had a display in one barn that had each different fiber as raw, washed, and spun, with a cartoon drawing of the animal it comes from, and a description and short history of the breed of sheep. I can send you copies of the photos if you are interested an I get your email. This year's Maryland Sheep and Wool is May 4-5.

I love you both and always looks forward to your podcasts! I discovered Anne Hanson’s patterns five years ago when I came across her booth at the Great Lakes Fiber Festival in Ohio (I also saw her on an early Fruity Knitting episode). I purchased the Amalfi Coast skirt pattern then, but no yarn. Coincidentally, I pulled the pattern out before the fiber festival this weekend hoping Anne would be there so that I could pick up the yarn. Unfortunately she wasn’t, but luckily I only live an hour from her shop. I can’t wait to start the skirt!

I looked for you two at the sheep and wool and must’ve just missed you at green mountain spinners. I was there at the festival at 800 and by 2 was exhausted. Jonna ,we must be similar. Last year I bought the interlaced skirt to make, this year it was a sweater and mitts from bare naked wools. I love their yarn. Also I decided to do the vellichor when I was at green mountain Decided I spent to much so I didn’t get the yarn. But will get the yarn online. Also bought sweaters worth from miss babs . Sorry I missed meeting you both. But I did meet Kevin and ray. It is a great festival. I go every year. Am glad you were able to get there

It was so nice to meet you guys in person! I'm so glad you guys were able to make it down to MDSW! Also so glad that the yarn cozies were timely, once I saw that you guys were coming I just knew I had to bring some for you guys! Jonna, you should be able to pull from the outside of a cake when using it, if I'm pulling from the outside like if I'm alternating skeins I'll try to push the inside tail into the cake so it doesn't wiggle out! 😊 Oh also Magpie Fibers (it was their year anniversary of having a brick and mortar store) and Frederick!! I'm so glad you got to venture over there Jonna! I worked at their dye studio until a few weeks ago and they are so lovely and you actually got yarn that they normally don't carry since it was a fiber friends weekend and they invited a handful of yarn or yarn adjacent business to vend over the weekend, so lucky you!! I would totally recommend Frederick next time- my knitting friend and I will frequently make our way up there on weekends to hang out and knit and also be with the gals at Magpie 🥰 sounds like you guys had a wonderful weekend!

Loved the episode! Loved that you were at the Green Mountain Spinnery. I still have a very tiny ball of Green Mountain Spinnery yarn from 30+ years ago. It will never get used, but it evokes such fond memories. Back in the day GMS did fantastic ragg wools. For the newer knitters, ragg wools are now called marled. Anyway...they had a beautiful ragg wool in navy and kelly green. I know I knitted a hat and or mittens out of that yarn. I had a scrap leftover, and it is still in my jar of teeny tiny scraps of old favorites. Still love their yarn.

Jonna, I have seen those skirts online and was also tempted, but I have such bad memories of sitting in wool garments as a child and getting incredibly itchy, even with a slip on. You'll have to let us know how it goes. Kim! I was just looking at Vellichor yesterday, but I can't decide on the yarn.🤔 I would probably do something lighter and in a cotton or linen/merino blend.
