I visited Lunenburg this summer, and I had the chance to visit The Mariner's Daughter. It's a cute little shop. I was so tempted to buy a kit for the Lunenburg sweater but I didn't have room in my suitcase. Jealous that you'll be spending two weeks there.

Jonna the red sweater like oks fantastic and you look absolutely beautiful in red. Kim, I love your Primrose blanket. Did you have a color guide in the blanket pattern to choose the colors ? Or did you chose the colors yourself - if so how many colors did you get ? I’m obsessed with that blanket 😍😍😍

Kim here... I chose the colors at PUES. Just laid them out to see what looked good together. I think they're all listed on my Ravelry, but I'll check to make sure. Thanks for watching! 😘

That red colour is gorgoeus and looks fantastic on you Jonna - I was thinking that from the moment this episdoe started. I really appreciate your insights into the shawl, Kim. I'm hoping to start that soon and so the more I know about the knitting of it beforehand the better. Thank you both, great fun as always xxx

Hmmmmm... You can definitely start teaching finger knitting and spool knitting at 5 or 6, but I've found that teaching children to knit with two needles can be challenging until 7 or 8. Just my opinion though.

I purchased something from Amazon called a yarn valet. You place your yarn on the spindle and as you pull from the outside it works like a lazy susan turning your cake. That may help.🤔

I have 2 yarn valets! I manage colourwork tension with so much ease. There are several names for them…we call it a “yarn butler”.

If you pull your yarn from the floor you are actually creating the "ribbon spiral effect". Try pulling from table height. That fixed it for me. I knit continental also. (I am pretty sure Roxanne Richardson did a video on this phenomenon.)

Thank you. I began knitting with the yarn at my height and had the same issue. I think the trick is to ignore it!

Great Show, as always! 🎉❤ About the shawls of Bärbel Salet: they are stunning but there is a very similar Designer called Christel Seyfart (from Denmark I think). The same construction (steek) of the shawls, same fair isle, and even similar flower inspired fabric. You find her on ravelry. I knitted one of her shawls and the pattern in english is well explained. It is a work of love though, many many stitches. The result is gorgeous. Greetings from Tissali (my name on ravelry - with that shawl) 🇨🇭

Lucinda is the owner of Mont Tricot in Sutton, Quebec 😊 Jonna , I had the same issue with tape yarn I am using to make a basket. I used my lazy Susan from ikea and put my yarn bowl on it. I use my feet to spin it when then yarn becomes too twisted and pull a very long yardage as well. I tried pulling from inside and outside but the result was the same so the lazy Susan was the best solution I could come up with ( plus I had one on hand )😊

Great episode! When you mention i-cord, I often wonder if you've ever made 2-stitch i-cord instead of 3-stitch. Besides being faster, it makes a lovely finished edge. I have used it on button bands and sweater edges and plan to use it on a shawl. Try it on the top of your next swatch! It looks nice on stockinette and garter, as well as ribbing as long as you don't pull tightly as you make it. Jonna, the red top is gorgeous on you! Kim, I love that you make items for your mom. I now wear things I made for my mom and think of her with love.

Jonna - I think you should try pulling the Lino tape yarn off a spindle (like a standup paper towel holder), In my experience, that helps with a yarn that is twisting. Hope that works for you.

Canada and the UK both used to use the "UK" needle sizing, but now that both countries use the metric system, we tend to use metric for our knitting needle sizes. That said, I come from a long line of Brits, so I've inherited an abundance of needles with the old UK size numbers on them. A conversion chart is definitely a *must*! 😊

Kim, blue on hair is tough. When my daughter had blue hair it got EVERYWHERE! Her skin, the shower, her sheets, her headphones. Looks great, but there is something in the blue that is unstable. And Jonna, for your yarn, what about one of those contraptions that spins the skein like a lazy Susan? You put the yarn on it and the whole skein moves not just the strand you are using. Good luck!

Also Patty Lyons' book has been a game changer for me when I got it a few months back, the "one move SSK" has made my projects look sooo much better. I hope more knitters will benefit from all the tips and tricks in that book now that you've mentioned it, Kim!

At first i thought Aegyo Knits was a Korean designer, seeing from the name, but i heard she has a Korean family member... perhaps her mother? Aegyo in Korean refers to expressing your love in a cute way, like cute face expressions or cute voice. Anyway, good to see you back with a full episode and as always you both look beautiful in your knits (and Jonna you rock the RED!) ---- from your Korean viewer :)r

For me the sound quality of your videos has always been fine. I watch on a cheap laptop with a cheap plug-in speaker and I can always hear your voices great and nothing in the background (in this video Jonna's voice was occasionally too quiet but it looks like she is further away from the camera) A suggestion for pulling out long lengths of Jonna's tape yarn is to use a garden shepherd's hook (for hanging a plant) to serve as a guide similar to the thread guide on a sewing machine that is right above the spool 🤷

Such beautiful projects and WIPs. Your Papillon is stunning, Kim. As you said, with Wrap and Turn Short Rows in garter, the wrap just looks like a purl bump, there is no need to pick up the wrap and "hide" it. But because that is a standard thing to do with short rows, i think it is worth the designer explicitly saying in the pattern there is no need to resolve the wraps. Jonna, i wish i could help you with a solution for your twisty tape. It is so hard when it takes away from the enjoyment of the process. Thanks for a lovely, fun episode. x

Jonna, you need a yarn buddy/yarn valet for that tape yarn. It's a spindle that sits on your table and spins to unwind the yarn as you pull from the outside of the ball. It doesn't add twist to your yarn. (I used to be a 100% inside-pull knitter, but the yarn buddy/yarn valet changed that forever. You can get inexpensive plastic ones to see if the action is right for you. And if it is, you can invest in a wooden one that squeaks less than the plastic. 😃)

The only thing I could suggest for your twisting yarn is to occasionally turn your needles in the opposite direction. Since you're working in the round, you're effectively "turning" your work in the same direction all the time. That adds twist.

You can put the stabilizer in a hoop and pin the sweater or hat to the stabilizer. When you finish, release the stabilizer and dip it in water to dissolve the stabilizer. I did a lot of machine embroidery on my embroidery machine and used the stabilizer a lot with knits pinned to the stabilizer.

I think you are probably creating a twist with every stitch as you knit the ribbon yarn, where the yarn is being wrapped with the flat side contacting the needle all the way around. If you were to wrap the yarn in a way that doesn't introduce twist, your stiches are going to have a different look to them; however, this may not even be possible with your knitting style. It's probably not worth the frustration.

I have fibro and some days all I can do is knit and learning a new section is beyond me. I guess that's why so many of my makes are on the more simple side. Just downloaded “A Wolf Called Wander” to my kindle. I got it through my public library and they also had the audio version available. Thanks for the tip😊

Love listening to you both while knitting on a Friday evening, That poppy red is stunning. Still crazy hot here in Texas but the mornings are starting to feel a little cooler. Thank goodness.

I so enjoy your episodes. You both have knitted such beautiful projects. Your red sweater top is very becoming on you Jonna, and Kim your mothers shawl is gorgeous. 🦋 I am interested in participating in the Petite Knits KAL. Is this something where you must be a member on Facebook? And because I do not have much experience knitting a cardigan, do you have any suggestions on her patterns? Thank you, StitchedbyMimi

Hi Sandy. No, you do not need to be on Facebook or be a member. We’re happy you’re thinking of joining us. It’s a very casual KAL. Do you want to knit a cardigan? I know the champagne cardigan has raglan shaping, which is fairly easy. You could skip the double knit button band and just do ribbing! It’s a lovely, worsted-weight pattern. Email us if you need more guidance.

Mrs. Mike was my very first ‘favorite’ book, and many years later my own daughters loved reading it too.

It’s a Sarah, perhaps? Check the show notes for the link to her channel.

KIM! So many fun bags! I wish I could pick up a crochet bag project with confidence, but it's been nearly 30 years since I touched a crochet hook. By the way, Triana is pronounced "tree-AH-na", and it is a neighborhood in the city of Seville in southern Spain, famous for its flamenco music, dancing and gypsy heritage. You would love it there, I'm sure. Btw, I'm glad to hear that your husband is driving again. JONNA! I'm sorry, but red is your new color. It really favors you. I now realized why you asked me about my Kuutar, and I have to say that I really enjoyed the lace yoke, but it did take concentration and I did not put it down until I was done - it's not something that you can easily pick up and put down. In your honor, I just tried mine on again, and decided that it looked better than I thought. However, I still think that I would feel more comfortable wearing it as a layering piece. When I do, I'll post a pic.

Jonna, I knit my second Ranunculus out of Lang Yarns Lino 100% linen and had the same problem with the yarn twisting. Not long into the project I gave up and just let it twist. In the end, I really like it! Very drapey, and fabric looks and wears well. Food for thought.

Good to know. If I use it again, I won't worry about the twist!
